I sent Rick an email asking for a quote on the model we’re building in Fernandina and he provide me with what I believe is a competitive price. It only took him about a week to send me the price which I thought was pretty good considering how busy he is.

He actually apologized because he thought he took too long to get back to me – I told him his response time was good for me because he responded prior to my designer meeting, which is what I asked him to do…

I’m looking forward to seeing his work completed in our home sometime in August.

Yep. We have an Aspen with a sliding glass door off the living room with same size fixed glass panels on each side and a two window slider off the dining area. So there are four same size glass panels in the living room and two in the dining room. We wanted to be able to slide all of the shutter panels to the side of the glass so none of the view was blocked. Rick didn't give us the quote. We got it from the blinds people next to Bargains and Treasures. So the two left shutters on the four panel door would slide to the left and the two on the right would slide to the right and none of the glass would be blocked. I liked the idea of the alumacore shutters which Rick offers. The advantage is it's less likely to be warped by humidity, easier to clean and never needs refinished or painted. For $4500 we really like the verticle blinds.

Quality hardwoods (not pine or softwood) sealed and finished correctly will not warp from humidity.

They are in a climate controlled home anyway.

They do use shutters out doors and for shade though out the south also similar slat construction is used on boats.

alumacore may have its place, but hard to beat the look and feel of real wood.

Rick convinced us of the same. We have a nice pasture view why close it in? I have seen his business change from 10 calls a day last July to a bazillion now. He does a great job! We could not have been happier.

Rick did our shutters and several neighbors. Everybody is happy with his work and price. With all the new homes going up he is extremely busy. Keep trying to contact him. It is worth the wait.

Perhaps when shutters are made in a factory they do a 1 or 2 coat application,

but on a non factory custom build using several coats of spar varnish or high quality paint with UV inhibitors the finish will last indefinitely like kitchen cabinets or furniture.

We were just at our design meeting for our home in Fernandina, called Rick and met with him the next morning. He took us to another home to show us the shutters and we are sold on it. My question is to people who live on the golf course? We will have an Iris. Do the shutters block any of the view of the course, especially in the nook area? To Iris owners who have elevation A, get the shutters that cover the top decorative window in the front room or only the big window? thanks for your help. Looking forward to our August 30th closing.

with so many options for shutters now you can get one that suits your exact needs and wants.. people are scared of shutters on the sliders for blocking view but, that's cause they are mis informed or their product doesn't offer wider slat options or slider panels that can stay open when pulled back like mine.. this is where a true shutter exp. installer can advise like the one carl at blinds plus uses..
fyi.. even alumacore shutters will eventually need re-painting
