Default Replacing tile floor with different tile

My wife is not happy with the color of our ceramic tile that came with our house. I've been telling her that it is a HUGE job to take up the existing tile so that it can be replaced with new tile. I say this because it seems like a huge job. However, sometimes big jobs done with the right equipment and expertise turn out to be not so bad after-all. So, the question: has anyone actually done this? If so, any idea about the magnitude of such an expense? Any recommendations on contractors to do this?

We have done this in just our bathroom in Ohio.

It would be easier to get another wife. Maybe not cheaper.

I'm with Gracie -- a new wife is easier and about the same price. However, give E&G Tile (407/375-6627) a call -- he can give you an estimate for the labor. Then all you have to do is decide on the tile, find a good attorney and move out.

I just did this in the majority of rooms in our house. There is no question - it is a BIG job and a big mess. Floormasters did our job, the floors look great.

I would shop around for price and recommendations. I did that three years ago, selected Floormasters, and have used them for three jobs since then. The first two were just replacing carpet, fairly easy, this last job was taking up tile and replacing it - very happy with the end result but here are a couple of thoughts: move out everything you can. Cover everything else in plastic. Seal off doors on rooms that are not being done. Get a professional cleaning crew after the job is done to clean everything from the ceiling to the floor. And don't forget to replace your air filter, it will be a mess!

FYI -- E&G is the sub who does most of the flooring for Floormasters (one of the big reasons why I don't hesitate to recommend this company -- you save a little money and they really know what they're doing).

Default tile grout

well I like my tile, however the grout is not the same as it was new. I have scrubed it till my fingers bleed, then what a mess. It it possible to change the color of the grout?

I replaced all the tile in one home. All the living area and both baths. Hired All in One Flooring. It was a mess. Dust everywhere for a while after. But came out very nice. If I recall, I think it was $1.50 a square foot to remove and $2.50 to install plus tile. Not to bad if you really dislike the current tile.

When we did the kitchen up north and were looking for grout, I saw a product that did just that. The problem was, I think it just changed the shade, not the color. I would check with Home Depot, that's where I saw it.

dogfriendly-grout can be easily stained, in quite a selection of colors, and the stain is also a sealer, which makes it easier to keep clean.

Default Just did it

Just had Floormasters replace all of our exsisting tile and carpet with a new
20 x 20 tile. They did a fantastic job and did it right. But I have to tell you all the pictures my neighbors sent me while the job was being done there is no way you can live in the house during the project. And when I say all the tile I mean all the tile in the bathrooms, laundry room all of it. Had them also tile the front of the kitchen bar. Cost $9500.00.( 1200 sq ft; left the carpet in the bedrooms). That included a cleaning company coming in and cleaning the house from top to bottom. Call Joe Adams at Floormasters.
