I had a bad experience with DGD. I called them to fix a broken chain on my garage door. They did fix it. The serviceman then convinced me to take a maintenance contract on the door for one year.
Three months later they called and made an appt. to do the first maintenance. I changed plans to be there when he comes. 30 minutes before he is due, I get a call that he can't make it that day. We set another date for him to come. I wait for him until another phone tells me he is too busy with another job to make it. These calls are coming from a women in their office. We make another date. Meanwhile, I have changed plans to be available for him. The morning he is due....you got it, the women calls and says THE TRUCK broke down and he can't make it again! I refused to make another appt and be made a fool of. So I ask to cancel the maintenance contract and send me my money back. I was told by this woman that she would talk to her manager about the refund. A few days later she called to make an appointment for service! I told her no more chances. I have had it. Now just send my money back! She said her PLANT MANAGER told her to tell me " that's not their policy"? I asked to speak to him and was denied. So, now I am not getting my $275 back, nor am I getting my Garage serviced. I just thought I'd let you know how I was dealt with. Good Luck to anyone else who employs DISCOUNT GARAGE DOORS!!!!! Did you pay with a credit card? If so, dispute the charge. If you paid via check, take them to small claims.

You are probably lucky they didn't show. They would probably have told you that you need something replaced.

Maintenance contract for $275.wow! Can't imagine any repair on a garage door for that. Even when a wire snapped or had a gear replaced, or had steel wheels converted to a quieter nylon ones these jobs were not close to $275.

On Sunday, October 19, at 10:30 am, I placed a service call with Discount Garage Doors. The service technician was scheduled to come that afternoon between 3-5. That afternoon around 4:00 Discount Garage Doors called again to say that the service technician was having truck problems and would not be able to keep the appointment.
I was advised that if I wanted to keep the service call active I could have someone out on Monday between 12-3. The service technician showed up at 3:30pm. Because of this delay in service I was told by the dispatcher that there would be no charge for the service call. The technician arrived and replaced both cables charging me $88 for the cables and an additional $185 to "reset the door" for a total charge of $273. This was our free (?) service call. This whole operation took less than one hour. While the service technician was here he mentioned to me that at some point in time the springs should be changed and that the springs they used were much better than the average springs used by other companies. The cost for this job would be around $850. The technician also said the reason why I was having a problem was because of the screen door I had installed over 6 years ago. The service technician left without even verifying that the doors worked properly. The next morning we tried to close the door with a remote and it would not close. I placed another service call Monday morning and was advised by the dispatcher that the service technician had noted that some parts might need to be changed: i.e. springs, and if that was the problem I would have to pay for the service call. About an hour after this service call was placed I got a telephone call from the service technician that repaired the door yesterday. He told me that chances were that either the springs would have to be replaced or the drive unit would need to be replaced with a different style. Time and time again the service technician kept telling me that my problems were caused by the screen door that had been installed years ago. Up until this point we had no problems with compatibility. So I called RETRACTABLE GARAGE SCREEN DOORS, who had originally installed the screen door, and asked them if it was possible that the screen door could be causing these problems and they said they would stop over and look at things. Two hours later they arrived. The service technician made one adjustment to our garage door drive unit which took 10 minutes and the problem was solved. If I had known RETRACTABLE GARAGE SCREEN DOORS worked on all garage door types I would have called them first because of the good experiences I have had with them in the past. So the moral of the story is: If you have a problem with your garage doors (screen or normal door), do yourself a favor and call Retractable. |
