Re: tank refill
Ace Hardware stores (def the one on 466; also assume the one on 441) will refill YOUR tank. Cost about $19. We just did this in the past 2 weeks.
Other places have the trade-in service...you leave your tank there and pick up another one that's been filled. We had recently bought a new tank at Sam's and wanted to keep ours (we know where it's been)...so Ace was the place for us. I recently read an article that said some druggies are using propane tanks in meth labs; their cooking process (?) could damage the seals on the tanks. They turn the tanks into these exchange places so you might get a bad tank. Not sure how much of this is true...just easier to fill our own tank.

Re: tank refill
Kind of far away but Porters was doing it for $10.00. Last time I went was a year ago so may have gone up some since then.

Re: tank refill
RVs use propane, and it is reported on their forums that the druggies have damaged some propane tanks making meth, as 07 stated. We just have our refilled, not traded.

Re: tank refill
my solution to all of this is to use an electric grill. The Patio Cadie by Char Broilis a wonder and only about $135. Cooks as hot as gas....will reach temps of up to 500 degrees......it is really a wonderful grill

Re: tank refill
Do you get the same result as a gas grill? And where can you get the grill?

Re: tank refill
I was going to Ace and the last time the price almost doubled. The other day I went to the Walgreen's on rt 42 and paid $21.67 (with tax) for an exchange.

When I lived in Sussex county, NJ, we would lose electricity for a couple of days - not just hours. I learned to cook stew and other main meals on the gas grill. The first thing I do when hurricane season hits is make sure both propane cans are full. I have nothing against electric grills. I have one for snacks and shrimp skewers. But the mainguy is standalone gas. Z

Re: tank refill
I own an electric grill and would never buy another.
When you open the grill to flip or add or remove, the cooking temp drops drastically and then takes time to get up there again. :edit: It will head to the yard sale before we move for sure.

Re: tank refill
Do you know of anyone who uses natural gas? I did that in my prior home, and really liked it. I never liked storing the gas, and for some strange reason, the gas only ran out in the middle of cooking something. I'm preferring electric now because of the storage and refill issue, but would do natural gas if I thought running a line was something do-able.
