Agree. They are good

Geez...was my original post REALLY that hard to understand? Many like this guy in Post #18 (Bill14564) could. I'm amazed at the number who could not!

Quote:
Perhaps:
- Customer asked for an estimate
- Representative came to customer's home
- $700 estimate provided
- Representative left
- 15 minutes passed
- Customer called to schedule installation based on $700 estimate
- Supervisor states that estimate was wrong and correct quote is $900

To be even MORE specific, with apologies to those who did originally understand:

1) Called Lenhart for an estimate
2) Lenhart estimator came out and gave written estimate for $700 to install 50amp breaker and outlet about 50' from service panel.

2) About 15 minutes after estimator left and I checked my calendar, I called their office to schedule work to be done.
3) I was put on hold for a few minutes while scheduler checked with supervisor.
4) When she came back on, I was told the estimator's quote did not include everything needed and the actual price would be $900.

I have 2 other companies coming out for quotes, one of which is Pikes, next week.

FYI - Lenhart did call back later that day apologizing for estimator's mistake.

I admit that I misread your original post. But, I don't understand why you will never deal with the company again just because they had to correct their quote. It happens a lot.

Phew! I, for one, am so glad the OP came back and cleared up the story so the over-analysis can be put to rest.

I often look at feedback before buying stuff. There are always some negatives and I tend to look at them first. Sometimes they are valid. Sometimes they are not. Sometimes when I read them I realize I did not even think about that and it is worth it to me to spend more.

You haven't shopped for wire in a while. A 50' roll of 12-2 is $70.

True. And hopefully no one is using 12 gauge on a 50amp circuit!

I assumed the OP meant the guy had finished the job and left the OP's house. Very confusing.
It was clear to me that the price went up before the work was done.

The OP stated that he needed a 50 amp circuit. My assumption is that he is getting an EV. He will need 6/3 wire if he wants a NEMA 14-50 receptacle at about $3 per foot. He may be able to go with a NEMA 6-50 which uses 6/2 wire at a lower cost.

I paid $100 plus parts last year for a 50 amp breaker plus wall plug for my EV.
It took 15 minutes to do the job. He was a one man show and licensed in Florida Electrican. He said people always pay too much here in TV.
He just retired first of the year.

Ha Ha Ha, $900.00 for a 50 amp breaker in your garage that’s ridiculous. That’s the problem living in the Villages. Contractors think you’re rich because you live here and inflate their prices. Always get 3 detailed estimates and compare apples to apples.

Default Follow-up to original post

Just to let everyone know, manager from Lenhart called, explained the confusion, and honored the original quote by not charging for the $200 GFI that is now required this year by code.

Work was done a couple of days ago to my satisfaction.
