Default Trader Joe's

I just Googled Trader Joe's and it sounds as though they aren't coming to Florida any time soon. The petition for a Florida T.J.'s has hundreds of signatures, but it doesn't look hopeful. If they did open a location here it would probably be in Miami (too far) or possibly Tampa (I would happily drive to Tampa for a Trader Joe's.)

Default price of guest housing

think I will just mention to my friends and family who want to visit that they are very welcome - as long as they bring a couple of my favorite things from Trader Joe's

Looking at their map on their web site, doesn't look like they will be in Florida any time soon.

From what I understand, no plans for a long, long time; if ever. Something about warehouse/shipping issues.

Well maybe we need to get a lot of people not only sign petition but to keep emailing them.

Can understand that - we drive 90 miles to Santa Rosa, CA for Trader Joe's and Costco monthly.

I think you could send them a million e-mails and it will not influence their decision. It is more of a logistic thing.

This may have been mentioned in other discussions about TJ's, but they share corporate ties with Aldi stores.

We have a TJ's nearby in Eastchester, NY but there's nothing there that you cannot find in TV, either in Fresh Market on CR 466 or in the World Market in Winter Garden, (a 45 minute commute on the Tpke). What is so special about TJs?

Two Buck Chuck is $3.79 here in Ohio thanks to state liquor control.

Might have to make a run before my next trip to TV and make a couple of bucks.

Default Let's beg them

For those who are not familiar with Trader Joe's, it is a wonderful grocery store with low
prices on about 4,000 items. They have around 300 stores nationwide, with about half of those
stores in California, where it originally started. Trader Joe's describes itself as "your
neighborhood grocery store" or "your unique grocery store". Products sold include gourmet
foods, organic foods, vegetarian food, unusual frozen foods, imported foods, domestic and
imported wine and beer (where local law permits), "alternative" food items, and staples like
bread, cereal, eggs, dairy, coffee and produce. Non-food items include personal hygiene
products, household cleaners, vitamins, pet food, plants, and flowers. They also sell Charles
Shaw wine " Two Buck Chuck".
Consumer Reports ranked it as the second best Supermarket, giving the number one spot to
Wegmans, a huge supermarket! There are no Trader Joe's in Florida, they have 2 stores in NC
and 2 in Georgia. A spokeswoman for the company says no plans to expand into Florida are on
the horizon. "Florida is not in our two-year plan at this time," said Alison Mochizuki. She
said the store does not discuss what goes into its evaluation of potential sites. Both Orlando
and Winter Park are collecting names to petition a store in their areas. We can do the same
to try to get a Trader Joe's here in The Villages.
If you're interested in getting support to open a Trader Joe's in The Village copy and paste this letter into a new email, scroll down to sign, add your name and zipcode; then forward to other residents you know who love to shop at Trader Joe's. ....It would be fabulous to have a Trader Joe's here.
When the list gets to 100, please send this email back to villagedebbie@comcast.net.

We, the consumers of The Villages would like a Trader Joe’s™ in our area of Florida. 81,000 Villagers
live here and come from all areas of the country and are familiar with Trader Joe’s.

Just got back from Brooklyn, shopped at Trader Joe's (oh joy!). I said to the checkout girl if you would open a store in Florida I wouldn't have to fly up here every two weeks. She said yeah, a lot of people say that.
It does not look hopeful. I think the closest TJ's is in Atlanta. It took years before they opened stores in the Northeast.
In reply to gryoung, Fresh Market does not compare to Trader Joe's. The prices are way high. TJ's prices are always reasonable. And TJ's is fun.
