Default Water leak...

Im up in NY and got phone call from sumpter water advising a water leak was reported by a neighbor and they turned off my water to avoid any damage.
The leak is from the "potable" meter going into the house . No water in the house that we know of but questins,,has anyone else experienced this type of problem and does anyone know a reputable plumber who could handle something like this...??
Not sure if house is still covered under warantee for this particular problem.
ANy help would be appreciated...Also if I have posted under wrong forum. my apology as I was not sure where to put this..Thanks...

Best you call your local water authority (see your bill) and tell them THEIR meter is leaking. Seems to me your not reponsible for their meters, your responsiblity should begin on the house side of the meter.

When we did our walk thru of our new house in 2002 one of the things I remember our superintendent saying was "when you leave your house for any extended period of time - turn off the water". We always have and it gives you piece of mind.

On December 4, 2008 I was walking in front of my Villa and swish my foot went in about 6 inches of wet ground. No problems in the house but ground was soaked out front by the turn off valve in the ground. I called the water company and they sent a guy out and he said I had a leak between the meter and the turn off valve. Valve to the house water.

I called Mike Scott Plumbing at 748-9111 I have seen their trucks around the construction areas so I thought they would know my home plumbing better than most. They got there in less than 2 hours.

There was a pin hole size hole in the plastic pipe right before the turn off valve. About an hour and $103.00 later all was back to normal. I was satisfied and made my tee time. That is a good thing!

Default Water leak ?

GOT A CALL FROM THE WATER CO. THAT THEY HAD TO SHUT ME OFF BECAUSE OF ALL THE USAGE. FOUND OUT,EVEN THOUGH WE'RE UP NORTH, WE USED 122,000 GALS OF WATER IN LESS THEN ONE MONTH. THE WATER HAS BEEN TURNED OFF IN OUR PATIO VILLA SINCE OCT. WHEN WE LEFT. NOW THE WATER CO. IS TESTING FOR LEAKS, NOTHING IN THE HOUSE IT'S BEEN CHECKED, BUT OVER 100,000 GALS IN A PV, IT WOULD BE FLOATING DOWN THE STREET. OUR BILL IS OVER 100 TIMES MORE THEN WHAT WE NORMALLY PAID.

We also had a water leak at the meter site. We called the water utility and they were out within the hour. Our leak was in the fitting between the street and the meter. The utility worker who responded to the call fixed it. When I asked, he expressed exasperation that the meters are routinely installed - at least 4 years ago - with PAPER gaskets (I think it was a gasket - anyway it was a PAPER something).
