Has the city totally lost control? They want to defund police while the crooks destroy businesses and steal whatever they desire with NO fear. Looks like a 3rd world country, no 3rd world countries have better control of rioters, thieves.

Seattle, a lost cause? Many of America's cities. So sad.

I find it very disturbing that we taxpayers pay all this money for police, national guard, and the military, but our leaders don't want to use them. The riots could be stopped in a matter of days.

it would appear that they may have lost control in the southside of Chicago decades ago....

The rioting and destruction are being allowed (?) or tolerated (?) for a reason.

Where does one look in the current climate to see and hear the voice of the people. Remember them? Those who were supposedly elected to serve and protect and REPRESENT the will of the people....certainly do not!

The mere fact that the rioting and destruction is continuing without opposition should be frightening to we the people.

But this was downtown Chicago in the high end stores. A van even pulled up to load from the stores. So what stores will stay in these areas without police protection? None. I also grew up in Chicago, and lived almost all my life in Illinois, but sadly the adversity in the city has it’s roots in failed social policies, and until that changes the saving spirit you mention will be lacking!

This is not adversity.

I was pleased that Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced that what was happening downtown was NOT grief over the death of George Floyd, but criminal action, felonies, and she wanted the perpetrators prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Good for her! Do it!

The irony, of course, is that she was much more supportive of BLM so long as the rioters stayed in South Chicago. The same goes for shootings. The attitude seems to be “Let the gangbangers shoot each other in their own neighborhoods and save us the bother.” “Let people loot and destroy and burn there where they live, but not downtown.” I agree that it’s better for violent young men to shoot at each other than at me, far from my home, but it does seem ironic.
