Let's remember what John Lewis dealt with. He had his skull fractured by racist white police as he peacefully marched for rights that never should have been an issue 100 years after the defeat of the Confederacy. No cops were ever charged as they were acting on the authority of the government. His Black life did not matter then. But he persisted and history has proven him right.

Maybe now would be a good time to change the name of that bridge where he and others were peacefully marching for human dignity.

America is a constant work in progress. What gives each new generation purpose is to take up the unfinished work of the last and carry it further — to speak out for what’s right, to challenge an unjust status quo, and to imagine a better world.

Especially since the bridge was named after someone, who was the exact opposite of what Lewis stood for.

I didn't always like what he had to say but I liked him. If I saw he was coming up next on the news I always hung around to see what he had to say. R.I.P. Mr. Lewis.
