So your chances of ending up in the hospital with "the flu" is miniscule compared to COVID

I couldn't find an accurate number for the percentage of hospitalized flu cases that die, but we know the mortality rate year to year is about 0.1% of cases. The 15% deaths of 7.3% hospitalized COVID patients come to about 1%, or 10x as deadly as flu, which is in line with other known data

So bottom line, if that was hard to follow, is that you are MUCH MORE LIKELY to die of COVID than the flu.

True story....15 people in a bank branch became ill within a 10 day period. 8 were vaccinated, 7 not. At first, 6 tested positive for the flu and negative for CoVid, and 9 positive for CoVid. After a few more days of being ill, the 6 that tested positive for flu then tested positive for CoVid. No one was so ill to require hospitalization. The 16th person was sent for a test as she had a headache....2 tests later, she still tested negative. She was the only one who had CoVid originally, very sick, but recovered after a few months. The moral of the story - whether you get the shot or not, whether you get sick or not - it's a crap shoot. Your individual immune system plays a role....your co-morbidity plays a role. Bottom line - do what you feel is best for you and yours.

While the Orlando Sentinel reported that the “number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida rose to an all-time high of 11,515 patients in one day, according to data the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released Tuesday,” it did not say they were all residents of Florida.

Each year, Florida gets millions of visitors. Visitflorida.org estimated that almost 80 million tourists came to Florida last year, and in past years visitors have exceeded 100 million. So, a reasonable assumption can be made that a percentage of hospitalizations are tourists.

First off, the CDC's credibility is just about zero right now. And to the person who doubts the COVID vaccine's effectiveness, yes it is much, much higher than the flu vaccine. COVID vaccine was made for the coronavirus; flu vaccines are based on the previous year's serotypes, which is sometimes hit or miss.
And as a retired aerosol research scientist, I say masks are minimally effective. GET THE VACCINE.

Covid isn't just "the flu". Flip Flopping information occurs when more knowledge is available. The entire world, not just the U.S. learned during the last seventeen months. Far fewer are dying now, most older people here in The Villages are fully vaccinated and older people were most at risk of dying from it.

I think that it is still a very nasty virus and still quite dangerous to everyone. No one wants to be hospitalized or have their loved ones hospitalized. Get the vaccine please if you have not done so. That little ******* virus doesn't have a political view at all.

I thought that too... BUT... I was just notified.... 4 vaccinated people from the same family just got exposed to COVID AND HAVE A BAD BAD CASE >. Enough to get IV INFUSIONs...vomiting, shakes, etc. Now get this... the whole family is vaccinated... but 4 out of 6 that gathered got it.. from one of the family members (who is vaccinated)... so I honestly don't see the Very Low Risk to the vaccinated... and the news is no longer saying low risk either... now for sure.. the unvax are great targets.. but don't be too confident if your vax... just saying pls... mask up and distance yourself still. The only good thing out of all this.. is more people are stepping up to be vaccinated and that's going to help every ones odds.
