The flag changes when new states are added to the country, with new stars to reflect the addition. There were two "first" American Flags: the "Betsy Ross" flag, and then the official 13-star flag. The Star Spangle Banner was a 15-star flag representing the USA from 1795-1818.

If you're not okay with someone even bringing up the notion of changing the flag, then you're not okay with the whole point of the USA - which is to enact change. If you're not okay with change, go live in a country where change isn't allowed. I hear Saudi Arabia is lovely this time of year.
Crazy talk!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next will be a change to the "Pledge of allegiance" to "I pledge allegiance to the flag that hates and wants to destroy America."

She is a great singer but once in a while a celebrity goes way too far.

Who cares what.......has been Macy Gray thinks? I always laugh when so called celebrities think what they say really means anything to the rest of us.

And they display it wrong. On various holidays (flag day, patriot day, independence day, veteran's day, memorial day) they stick flags into the ground near the edge of their driveway, and stick them so deep that the flags touch the ground.

Or they don't bother changing them and they're torn and faded on their flagpoles for months (pro-tip, snowbirds - take your flag down if you know you won't be there to change it if it gets torn for several months). Or they keep the flag raised 24/7 without illuminating it at night.

The hypocrisy is what makes me cringe. They're the same ones who, if you point it out to them that their flag is torn, will tell you to mind your own business.

So screw'em. Do what you want with the flag. Most people around here don't show it the respect they insist it deserves. They're the ones you should be railing against. Not someone who just wants an upgrade on an old design - or someone like me, who thinks it's silly to respect, revere, or honor an inanimate object.
Oh, now it's "respect, revere, or honor", when before (pre-edititing your post) it was "worship"...

Backpedal much?

And you say "do what you want with the flag", then you complain about what they're doing with the flag... Very confusing...

Yes changes that were made in accordance with our growth as a nation. Not arbitrary changes. Enjoy your trip, watch out for the camels.

I think this is one of the most amusing threads I’ve read in quite a while.

First of all, no one should expect entertainers to be any different than the average person, other than they have a pulpit. It’s silly to get upset when they say something that is dumb, insulting, etc. Life’s too short. Just throw away your concert shirt.

Secondly, I don’t have allegiance to a piece of cloth, just like my Jewish friend. I have allegiance to my country. When I was raised Catholic, we were taught that we didn’t pray to icons, we prayed to what they represent. It’s really tragic if someone dyed for a piece of cloth.

Next, it is especially amusing to read comments saying posters who say the flag has changed (other than stars) don’t know their history. At first, a stripe was added with admission of a new state. In 1818, the flag went back to 13 stripes. Who doesn’t know their history?

Here’s my idea: change the stars. We are not an all-white country. If there are 16% brown people in the population, we should have 8 brown stars. Perhaps 2 yellow, at least 1 red, no matter the % indigenous population. If 10% of the population is LGBT, have 5 stars that show a rainbow.

Interesting, except the white stars don't represent white people...

You want a rainbow? Buy a bag of Skittles...

Why would anybody even discuss this. It only gives them more traction. Ignore them and they will disappear

We have a movement in this country to rewrite history. Juneteeth to me insanity. Imagine a Federal holiday for every historical event for every race creed, religion.
No one would or ever could WORK. We would need to add extra days to the 365 day year to avoid running out of holidays. It not only seems insane, it is insane.

Change isn't always good.
I agree. So many important parts of our country’s history are being changed or eliminated. I’d like to see our flag stay the same. If DC ever becomes a state and we add another star, that’s another story.

“The whole point of the USA is to enact change”? You can’t be serious! You also can’t be a patriot. Patriots are sick and tired of the whiny masses destroying the very fiber of this country.

Soldiers are turning over in their graves listening to your traitorous banter.
