Wow...this is the last BS straw for me...my camel's back has now been totally broken

How stupid and how far over the hill will some elected officials bend to make sure that they absolutely do not offend anyone at any time any where at any time...even if they are misinformed on reality

Well, guess what Orange County, you have just offended me! I OBJECT. Does, my
voice count...or am I just too damn white? Okay I could have my son who lives in Orange county object...will that matter??? No you've made up your mind that John Wayne must go.

Stupid, dumb, idiotic, cowardice.... you are running scared of what??? You cowards!!!!

If California drops off the edge from a earthquake...I no longer care....good bye
We are moving to TV but currently live in Newport Beach. We love John Wayne and his legacy. What he said in the 70’s should not held against him 50 years later. We are all products of our upbringing, no matter how racist it was at the time. It is time that teaches us other views...Thank God.

No reason to be ashamed as nobody alive today had any part in it.

We should all feel it is wrong and do our best to make everyone live on an equal playing field.

Idiotic that people today who were never slaves should ask people who never owned slaves to pay reparations.

Utter and complete stupidity.
I am beginning to believe the special interest minority groups are purposely research and targeting that which will pi$$ off most Americans.

Next? Snow White? National Anthem? American Flag? Apple pie?

The tail is vigorously wagging the dog!!!!

Has not a thing to do with making anybody's life matter.

Disgusting and sad.

And it's high time we put that hateful, racists era of history where it belongs - in a museum.

Flew in and out of that airport many times in the 90's. Since Orange County was a conservative enclave back then I just figured that naming it John Wayne was just a reflection of that fact. Never gave it much of a thought after that. Plus it sure did beat LAX.

Discrimination will always exist. I always discriminate against strawberry whenever cherry vanilla ice cream is available.

Every day in every way when I have a preference for one thing versus another, I thus discriminate.

Now I believe you mean "racial discrimination", if so then say what you mean without the broad brushstrokes.

Coercion and/or violence will never change the human heart in to one of greater love and understanding; it only breeds more hatred and violence.

Coerce me to knee, coerce me to say black lives matter, violently and physically attack me; you might get me to submit but you are certain to generate a long lasting hatred.

Why would anyone want to generate more hatred in this world, especially while espousing a love of peace? Ulterior motives perhaps?

There is a difference , not so obvious to some, between commemorating an individual or an event and celebrating that individual or event. You can't change history but you don't have to applaud what happened!

There were some slave who had to pick the apples so we should stop eating apple pie. Would say pecan pie but they come from Ga so thats out.

Guess we can go to cherry pie but we have to do a study of this so it might be a few years for that so guess we better get together and stop eating pie.

This is not the first time "they" wanted to change the name of the airport. I'm just waiting till five o'clock to start my happy hour at my home bar. At least my mind can get a little rest for a few hours. WHEN WILL ALL THE INSANITY END?
exactly...not until people wake up and stop pandering to a few that are bent on pulling our nation down, brick by brick

This violence is about $$$$$$$$$ and power, nothing else. Pure and simple extortion. Where is the concern and anguish about the black carnage in Chicago every weekend? Silence. Where is the concern and anguish about the millions of black babies aborted? Silence. Where is the concern and anguish about the putrid level of education that most young blacks get in inner city schools? Silence. But I thought Black Lives Matter? Apparently not. Only when money and power can be extorted do black lives matter. Hundreds of millions of dollars are now being funneled to black organizations from the government, from corporations, from individuals. BLM is an organization that has tapped into the mother lode of white guilt, liberalism and political correctness. BLM spent over $1 million on consultants and travel last year. This movement will not help blacks at all. It’s just Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson on steroids! We’re being conned because a rotten cop took down a really bad criminal with excessive force. And a lot of money and power is changing hands because of it. Not a bad con if you can get away it. And they are.

I totally agree. I believe that slavery was wrong and racism is wrong but the insanity that is happening right now is not going to fix either of them.

The government pays too well. They all just sitting around thinking of everything that bothers them. They should be working.

I've enjoyed almost every single one of John Wayne's movies.

If the naming of the airport (which I find one of the easiest to get in and out of and love its close proximity to an Embassy Suites, which is great for family travel) is based on his work in film...I have no problem with it.

However, to be fair, the plaque on the statue should also, IMHO... include his racist/bigoted/xenophobic personal viewpoints.

Think of it as..."truth in advertising."

It's a bit ironic that Bob, the owner of one of John Wayne's favorite restaurants (as stated by Wayne himself, on one of the restaurant's own postcards)...held much different personal views than The Duke.

I found a framed, handwritten postcard stating the restaurant was one of his favorites by The Duke, in a memorabilia store in Orlando, then immediately called my best friend in Newport Beach to pass on to his uncle Bob...who bought it over the phone.

It stayed in Bob's office until his passing.

The reason I know this, is that my best friend (Bob's nephew) is also the manager of the Crab Cooker of Newport Beach.

I hear the new restaurant, because the old one was condemned due to nearby construction...should be open soon.

As you may know, they don't take reservations and even once made a very important and powerful person stand in line...along with everyone else.
