Fix what? It is a cost-of-living increase that is built into the law, and it occurs every year.

Who is they? If you are concerned that the Social System is going broke, the people to blame are the voters who demand that the Government continue to spend more money than they take in for almost everything, not just Social Security.

I would not expect changes to SS to address the funding shortfall until 2032. The last time that SS was faced with a reduction in benefits was 1983 and Congress passed a bill on essentially the eve of a benefits cut. I believe there is a good probability that we won't see any action until right before the estimated 22% benefits cut is to to take place.

I thought that social security COLA was based on the entire previous year.

Instead, Social Security COLA is based on the percentage increase in inflation during the third quarter (Q3) of the current year compared to the third quarter (Q3) of the previous year.

Food prices include Food at Home (Groceries) and Food Away from Home (Restaurants & Dining)

Groceries went up about 2.2% and dining went up about 3.4%.

Overall, food prices were up about 2.6%.

...
If I understand it correctly, the SS COLA uses the Sept. inflation number. This is still an entire year (Sept '25 - Sept '26) but it gives time to implement the increase.

And the increase in benefits helps to get us to the point where they will not have funds to pay the amount we are entitled to.

I agree we should hold our elected representatives accountable for the financial mess we are in.

Really? What was the inflation on food, or overall, for those years?
