I generally tape games and fast forward through the national anthem, so I have no idea who is taking knees. I fast forward through the commercials, so I have no idea who to boycott. My main worry is that the Brewers did not do enough in the off-season to make a run this year, but looking forward to the first game tonight at 6:10 Central vs. the Cubs. Play ball!

America's pasttime? Approximately 30 percent of MLB players are NOT Americans. Not that it should make any difference for someone having respect for a country's national anthem. But I thought it was interesting.

GE, what do you think George Steinbrenner would do if anyone on the team when he was in control took a knee? He controlled their Facial Hair.

The policy itself states thusly:

“All players, coaches, and male executives are forbidden to display any facial hair other than mustaches (except for religious reasons), and scalp hair may not be grown below the collar. Long sideburns and “mutton chops” are not specifically banned.”

But the seventies’ nostalgia aside, the policy has been widely derided for some time, with calls for its abolition interspersed with satire. Lou Piniella famously challenged the policy with Steinbrenner, to amusing effect.

It would have been something to see him go up against the kneelers. He is the kind of guy who could have possibly canned them all as you suggested. If I had his Cabbage I swear that I would.

SWEET LOU PINELLA:

“I don’t understand, Mr. Steinbrenner, what long hair has to do with your ability to play baseball,” Piniella said. “I’m a Christian. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had hair down to the middle of his back, and it didn’t affect the way he went about his work.”

In response, Steinbrenner said, “Oh, really?... come with me,” and led Piniella out to a pond beyond the left-field wall.

“You see that pond, Lou?” he said.

“It’s about seven to eight feet deep. If you can walk across it, you can wear your hair as long as you want.”

Pinella had a Bar inside Woodbridge Mall in N.J. and he was the most gracious man. Always had time for a picture or an autograph. He told some great stories and had a very colorful vocabulary.

If that is true, why is there so much angst on this board about the players 'statement' concerning the treatment of people of color?

I thought the statement showed great solidarity. And it showed that people are willing to adjust their actions to address the concerns of those on the other side of the issue by keeping it separate from the National Anthem.

And who is it that said "the other side" is only black!!!!

The problem for many of us is that the problems the black "promoters" would have you believe is that blacks are the only race that have citizens with wants and needs.
What about the poor and destitute white population?
The Hispanic Latino poor?
Far Estern heritages?

All of which far out number the blacks.

Racism? Prejudice? Is not a problem unique to blacks.

Why is it we never hear from the average everyday black AMERICAN? Do they think all these over paid wealthy jocks are doing them any favor?

This subject has now attained the status of poop and chair saving threads.

Your right, some people still think that working hard is still the answer.

Such a softball...

Are you really concerned with the other minorities. There have been other protests and cries for change for decades in many areas of non-white discrimination. There is a constant demand to improve the handling of mental illness, homelessness, education for underprivileged students. What about the immigration protests? I guess you missed those while out golfing.

All of which far out number the blacks.

Is this true? State the facts. Even if true, why would this invalidate the BLM cause?

Racism? Prejudice? Is not a problem unique to blacks.

True...but are you saying that since racism and prejudice is a broad problem, nobody can address a more select issue within their own community?

Why is it we never hear from the average everyday black AMERICAN? Do they think all these over paid wealthy jocks are doing them any favor?

Huh?? I think you hear about it everyday. The peaceful protests that have been occurring around the country is made up of everyday black AMERICANs. Who do you think they are? In fact, the peaceful protests have races of all types in support of change.

I agree. I have complained in the past the the same people start up the same threads over and over. Unfortunately, the core issue still needs to be addressed, though, most posting of complaints and anger in TOTV and other forums is a waste of brain cells. Hopefully I have enough to spare since I am replying.

I think that's the point of BLM, that Black lives were not valued to the same degree as White lives. In other words, Black Lives Matter as well.
