Before you jump on me for stating it is “just a nuisance for most people” here is another direct quote from the WHO; “Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.” COVID is not on a plane with Ebola, the Plague, Cholera, Malaria, or Yellow Fever. Not even close!

Unfortunately I have found that logical arguments backed by proven science (not “may happen” or “might not be”) fall on deaf ears. It is similar to having an argument over religion. The true believers have blind faith and no person will ever sway their belief no matter how sound the opposing view.

My previously published views on COVID have stirred such animosity that people have gone so far as to wish me “homeless” and that my children “die of cancer”. I refuse to be bullied into silence when I see so many people who have been paralyzed with irrational fear and making decisions about their health based on largely one-sided views without fully examining all sides of the issue. I am a retired RN who has all the 'certifications' you listed plus some, as do MOST RN's in this country, so ACLS and PALS does not make you an epidemiologist and does not qualify you to give advice to others on whether they should or should not be vaccinated. With almost half a million deaths in this country, this virus can be more than a nuisance. You do what you want, but please don't use meaningless 'certifications' (in relation to covid) to try to convince others you have special knowledge. So, for people who don't know...Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) simply teach nurses what to do in the event of an emergency such as a cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest in an adult or child in a hospital setting. While these are complicated certifications to receive, they teach nothing about epidemiology. Personally, I decided to receive the vaccine as did most of my previous co-workers. I've had my first shot and soon to have the second. People should do their own research and make their own decisions.

Facts: People who have been infected can get re-infected. The apparent immunity from a natural, mild infection is only a few months. While many people may only experience mild symptoms, there are a large number that experience worse symptoms and there are now almost 500,000 Americans dead from Covid. The long term effects of infection are just starting to become apparent and they can be devastating. By not getting vaccinated you risk being infected and then transmitting the disease to others, especially your own family who may suffer more severe consequences.

The vaccines have proven to be safe and effective. If you have allergies then consult with your physician. If you carry an epi pen, make sure that the people administering the vaccine know, they monitor everyone for at least 15 minutes and for longer if requested or if you have a history of allergies. The vaccine has now been administered to millions of people and the adverse effects seem to be minimal and similar to other vaccinations.

You can NOT get COVID from either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine because neither one contains the virus in any form.

Thanks to the OP for his post. There are many people that agree with you as 30% of the population in the US say that they will not get the vaccine, and there are many people who clearly feel differently. I have gone into anaphylactic shock on two different occasions which is very scary, and I definitely have concerns about getting vaccinated thus I may be one of those who decide against the vaccine.

My final concern is that the COVID vaccines utilize genetic engineering. Messenger RNA vaccines (mRNA) vaccines have strands of genetic material called mRNA - source/CDC

I am NOT an “anti-vaxxer” nor a conspiracy theorist. I have had the DPT, pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine, HBV, and the zoster vaccine. I am susceptible and was routinely exposed to these diseases at my workplace. These vaccines have a proven record and were not rushed into production.

For those who have NOT already had a positive COVID test, I would carefully weigh the pros & cons of a new, relatively untested vaccine developed at “warp speed” (their words not mine) that uses genetic engineering against a virus that is just a nuisance for most people. Before you jump on me for stating it is “just a nuisance for most people” here is another direct quote from the WHO; “Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.” COVID is not on a plane with Ebola, the Plague, Cholera, Malaria, or Yellow Fever. Not even close!

Unfortunately I have found that logical arguments backed by proven science (not “may happen” or “might not be”) fall on deaf ears. It is similar to having an argument over religion. The true believers have blind faith and no person will ever sway their belief no matter how sound the opposing view.

My previously published views on COVID have stirred such animosity that people have gone so far as to wish me “homeless” and that my children “die of cancer”. I have also been called a “quack”, a “know-it-all”, “part of the problem”, a “disgrace”, “brainwashed by Tr_ _p” (of course) and the list goes on and on.

I refuse to be bullied into silence when I see so many people who have been paralyzed with irrational fear and making decisions about their health based on largely one-sided views without fully examining all sides of the issue. Human beings are capable of independent thought and reason. We are not sheep or lemmings.

I am a retired RN, EMT-Paramedic with an ASN degree graduating summa cum laude, a member of 2 national honor societies, with past American Heart Association certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. I also am a certified coroner after receiving my training at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and served as the Chief Deputy Coroner for a county in Pennsylvania. I worked during the onset of AIDS/HIV, H1N1, MRSA & Necrotizing Fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria) and never have I seen such a level of misinformation and a bombardment of articles that focus on rare atypical cases and the hypothetical.

I only include this professional background information to distinguish myself from authors with absolutely no background in healthcare whatsoever and who state unproven theories often with no scientific support. I do not claim to be an expert, just experienced. As the actor Walter Brennan was often quoted from an old television show, The Guns of Will Sonnett; “No brag, just fact".

I find it distressing when a nurse with only a 2-year associate's degree makes the kind of claims and assertions you did, statements that many people take as fact.

I am a PhD-prepared nurse who has been a Vice President of several hospitals as well as a Dean and Vice President of Nursing in several universities and colleges. I have developed and directed nursing programs at all levels from associate degree to bachelor's and master's degrees as well as doctoral programs. Once students are beyond the associate degree level, we have them take courses in research and evidence-based practice, which are not generally offered in associate degree programs.

This background in the scientific method and evidence-based practice. This foundation allows more advanced nurses to read scientific literature in peer-reviewed journals with an appropriately trained eye and evaluate the data presented in them. While I appreciate your credentials, the way you state them makes you sound more highly educated than you are and can be misleading to the public who are not as aware as I am about the levels of nursing education and the level of content they each contain.

I have done--and published--articles and research in several peer-reviewed journals over many years. Without appropriate citations to the literature, your statements become opinion, not fact.

For fact-based and research-based recommendations about COVID and vaccines, I suggest reading Dr. Mirkin's regular articles in the online Village News. He analyzes--and provide the citations for--specific articles from the scientific literature that support the value of vaccination, even for those who have had COVID (which I have had).

As I said in my longer post to this thread, you are correct in stating that being a registered nurse with the LOWEST POSSIBLE entry-level nursing education and being an Emergency Medical TECHNICIAN does not qualify this gentleman to make these statements.

Get the shot if you wish, or avoid it if you wish but the threat to liberties is not the reason one should use to get the shot.
