the faucet is leaking from where the shaft goes into the faucet. In the past I have tightened the small nut just under the faucet handle. This has worked but now seems to be at it's limit. Do I just remove the small hex nut and replace what ever is inside?

The faucet is in a stucco wall and the only part exposed is the spigot only. It appears to me that to replace the faucet I will have to dig out quite a bit of stucco.

So I am hoping it can be a DIY repair.

go to ace or home depot and get the wrapping that goes in the nut. its like thick string. easy dyt

its a very cheap faucet its best to just replace it --it will unscrew from the pipe counter clockwise dont for get to shut off the water first

You must be sure the valve isn't soldered to the supply line/pipe before putting a wrench on that thing. Mine was therefore I twisted my valve off along with the supply pipe. Had to run new piping to fix the thing.

Even if it is a threaded male fitting going into the valve, you must still back up that supply line/pipe with a wrench before applying torque.
