Default Help with cabinet installation

Trying to hang cabinets in laundry room of Valparaiso Courtyard Villa. Unable to find any wood studs? Are there any? Can you hang without attaching to studs? Thank you .

If you go to Home Depot or lowes they sell an electronic stud finder. It's inexpensive, around 10 bucks. You must find a stud or the cabinet will fall off the wall. If the wall is block you can use anchors to fasten the cabinet to the wall. The cabinets must be properly attached to the wall. If all else fails and you do not feel you can do this, go in the search area of this site and look for a handyman. There are many good ones that work in the villages. Tim the tool man is a guy that comes to mind. Good luck

This can be done even if there are only metal studs in the wall.

1. Measure exactly where you want the cabinets on the wall.
2. Remove a horizontal strip of sheetrock 5 inches wide about a foot below where the top of the cabinet will be for the entire length of where the cabinets will cover.
3. Take a 2 X 4 and cut it to the width of the space between the metal studs. put it through the opening you created and hold it horizontal between the metal studs at about where the top of the cabinets will be, and using sheet rock screws anchor it in place through the sheet rock. Do this for the entire length of the cabinets you want to hang.
4. I also inset a 2 X 4 for as long as I can vertically into the metal stud and anchor it through the sheet rock with screws.
5. Do this so your cabinets will cover everything you are adding. Than hang the cabinets screwing into the horizontal and vertical 2 X 4 pieces you just installed.

This will give you a much stronger support for the cabinets than any type of wall anchors.

I hired Tim Miller (352 217 0561) to put them up. He did a great job.
