Timberland
I played the new Timberland course today and enjoyed it very much.
I played from the blacks and here is a summary.
The first hole is the easiest on the course its a wide open 300 yard par 4. I think it is really nice to start off a round with an easy par 4. You don't need a driver but you can hit one easily. Plenty of room.
The second and third holes are also straightforward 178 and 157 yard respectively par threes.
That is when things get interesting. The next four holes are 3 approximately 200-yard par 3s and a 410 yard par 4. The wind was in my face, and I think it is going to be that way most days. Adds a club for sure. Number 4 is particularly interesting. It was playing 196 yards. But there is large greenside bunker protecting the full width of front of the green. So you have to clear a bunker with your 200 yard shot into the wind and then somehow stop it on the green. Not easy. I failed.
Number 6 is the long part 4. Its completely wide open, and there was wind behind us, so you can definitely grip it and rip it.
Number 7 is the longest par three on the course at 212 yards. Nothing remarkable about it except that is it long.
Number 8 is a straightforward 160 yard par 3 and number 9 is another long par 3 at 202 yards. Altogether 4 of the seven par 3's are, depending on pin placement, close to 200 yards.
One thing I liked about this course, is that, unlike most executives, the aprons around the greens were not closely mown. So if you miss a green, you can't just putt over the apron, you have to actually hoe the ball out of the Bermuda.
As expected for a new course the conditions were impeccable.
The villages description of the Timberland course gives the impression that there are tree-lined fairways. Its more like dotted with trees. But the trees that are there are pretty. There is no water on the course that I noticed, so losing balls is pretty much impossible unless you lose one in deep grass.
