Getting Older
I was reading a book today and one of the characters, an older woman, said:
"Oh, let's face it, we're all getting older and closer to the pavement". Am I the only one shrinking? I feel like a Mini me (but not sideways, sadly). |
Bare, it's strange to me that this question came up today. Just went to a different Dr. a couple of days ago and they asked for my height. I gave it to them and later when they weighed me, they checked my height. I measured about 3/4" shorter than I was the last time my height was checked many years ago. I thought they did something wrong so I came home and checked their measurements and they were right on. I'm quite tall and didn't think I'd gotten any shorter, big surprise for sure. Guess I'd better hang on, I'll bet the ride gets a lot bumpier yet :crap2:

Everything sure heads south as we get older, thank goodness for TV. Its the only good thing about heading south i can think of!;)

Body parts heading south?
Chels, You are a total riot!!!!!!:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Hi,
I travelled North and nothing on my body reversed itself. I check every day and there was definitely a southward trend. The mirror in our stateroom was a horrid one. It was an accurate image of me and not the image of the one I wanted. How was everyone's cruise? Love ya and miss ya all HB |
Heading back North!
HB!
Are ya back? Good to hear from you, hope you had a wonderful time! Thats the problem with heading back north! Nothing reverses, so why bother??? LOL Great to hear from you, you've been missed! |
Hi Nonie,
Love your new Avatar. Amazing how a cruise can turn the clock back for both of you. We are in Newfoundland and will be home in a few days. Can't wait to hear all about your cruise. We have been posting a travelogue in the Travel Forum. Can't wait for our paths to cross again. Love ya and miss ya, HB |
HB, shhhhhhhhhh!
What makes you think we turned the clock back???? The Villages just agrees with us! LOL! Enjoy the remaining of your trip, it sounds fabulous! |
Peachie, that is what I'm talking about, it is scary! You said that you lost 3/4of an inch and didn't notice it disappearing. Remember when the tooth fairy used to bring us money? Now the bone fairy is stealing our height away while we sleep. The good news is that every one else is also getting shorter and wider!

find your boobs there. Especially if you tend to sleep on your back. It is tricky finding all the little bits in the morning, nothing is where it should be any more. |
Bare, I never thought of checking the pits. I am going to look for my 3/4" there first thing in the morning. :1rotfl:

Peachie, I've been finding all kinds of mysterious things are disappearing in my life. Recently someone broke into my house while I was away for a week. Strangely, all they did was replace all my existing clothes with identical copies but smaller sizes. And that is why none of my clothes fit any more. Not my fault. |
Your thieves must have a franchise, Bare, the same thing happened in my closet! :1rotfl: After a contractor had completed installing a large closet system put in our very large walk-in closet, my Mom stopped in to take a peek. She looked at the new closet, looked at me and said, "my goodness, do you ever have a lot of clothes!". After I explained to her there were 3 different sizes for 4 different seasons because I planned to lose weight over the years, she understood. Like that ever happened! So I'll guess I'll donate the size 8, leather, Liz Claiborne skirt. Sigh... time to get rid of my fantasies and move on.

I found a great way to weed out some on clothes (with you know all those dream smaller sizes I'll get into). I went to look at my stack of smaller clothes and pretended that I reached my ideal size and then with a brand new prespective, I looked at each piece to see if I would wear it now...about 80% of that clothing went to goodwill.

I can do a cut and paste but haven't figured out yet how do do a quote.
Excellent idea - I will have a closet that is not only spic and span but empty after this last cruise. Started my water diet today - will see how long I can keep it up. :1rotfl: Thought I was being so careful on this last cruise - but they say the scale doesn't lie (I am living proof it does), the cleaners did not shrink my clothing nor did they use extra hot water to shrink all the clothing that I had washed. I do not believe the above at all. The cleaners did shrink my clothing and the clothing that was laundered did shrink. I know this is a fact because when I started the cruise the clothing was loose - now they are tight. Besides eating three meals a day (for health reasons - to keep up my energy) the only difference is that we used the ships cleaners and laundry service. Artificial Nails
I'm a nail virgin who is contemplating artificial nails for the first time. I want to reward myself when I get to TV, as all my nails are wrecked from moving and packing.
I'm wondering if anyone can explain the difference to me between acrylic, solar and gel nails. And which type you would recommend. And could you also recommend a good place to have them done? I called one place and they said it takes 1/2 hour. I called another place and they said it takes 1 1/2 hours. I don't know what to believe. The Teaching Academy doesn't do artificial nails. Bright has recommended a place in Wildwood but they're only open Tuesday to Friday. I have used Hollywood Nails in the past, but they tend to be very fast .. not sure how good a job they do? I'm also wondering about Top Ten in the Palm Ridge Plaze on Highway 466. Any comments would be appreciated. |
Bare!
Hi Bare, I still love Hollywood Nails for both nails and pedicures. I am now devoted to Timmy! :1rotfl:
|
Barefoot..I might be able to explain..
Gel nails are better for your natural nail, but will not take the abuse the acrylic nails will..A full set is also more expensive.. I have had both, and the gel nails lift easily..I might be an exception to the rule but at the salon, my hands are always in water..The acrylics last very long, if the nail tech does them right... |
Donna, thanks for the explanation. I'm hard on my nails so I guess I better get acrylic.
Did you have your acrylic nails done at Hollywood Nails? I want to have my nails "done right" as you mentioned. Do you think Hollywood Nails is an OK place to have them done? How long should it take? |
Nails
Yes, I get the acrylic nails. Full set of french tips. It takes about 40 min. But I'm there longer because I get the pedicure too. Great fun!
|
I guess you knew this was comming. but if your not happy with anyone in or near TV, my daughter has had her own nail business since 1986. She does a fabulous job and people just love her work. (brag, brag, brag) Of course this would mean a trip to Mount Dora every so often, So I know how much of a disadvantage that is, right? why would anyone in their right mind want to go to Mt. Dora every 6 weeks, what a royal pain that would be.:blahblahblah::blahblahblah::blahblahblah::D

Bare
The Wildwood Salon takes about an hour or so. I am very hard on my nails..don't wear gloves, clean and scrub and do weed and yard work without gloves. I need nails that can live up to the wear and tear they have to endure on my hands. I can't speak for Hollywood Nails but I can tell you that the nails I get in Wildwood stand up to the neglect I give them. Not ever once, or ever, have they chipped or broken. That impresses me! I'm very anal and picky about my nails. I always inspect them for uniformity, smoothness, evenness, and contour. I couldn't be happier than with the nails I get in Wildwood. What more can I say? |
Bright,
I am exactly like you with my nails..I am the Mr.Monk of acrylics...lol My nails are my own, I have acrylic overlays..I am so rough on them, and thy never crack, lift, chip, etc... You have to give me the name of your salon.. Thanks:) |
manicure?
Girls!! I must admit to always doing my own nails! They look great for 2-3 months , then break. I have never been to a salon. My daughter gave me a massage gift certificate to Villages Salon that sits and waits for me to get the courage to go. I think a massage sounds perfect right now!!I think I'll call and make an appt! You girls do have very pretty nails, but it takes going back every 2-3 weeks?? I think I'll keep doing my own!

I agree, RR! I love to see all of those beautiful nails but I guess my nails are tools, not jewels. I've had one manicure in my life and it seemed to take forever so I polish mine once in a blue moon when they all happen to grow out without breaking and I have a special event. But as a side note, I do keep them clean and trimmed... |
Timmy!

Peachie,
:agree: working at the dog kennel every day does not require beautiful nails. You wouldnt believe what gets under them, so no sense spending $ on them. just short, clean & trimmed is about the best I can do. Someday Im gonna give those acrylics a try, they look so beautiful on everyone else. :undecided: Great for scratching backs too! |

Hair
Time for a hair colour and cut. Anyone got any good, recent suggestions?
By the way, I did get gel nails (artificial nails for the first time ever). I love my french tips! :0000000000luvmyhors and don't know why I didn't do it years ago. |
I am always doing some project that marks up the polish. The only polish that stays intact is on my toes. I don't know how many times I have had a manicure and the next day it looked like I had my nails sanded.
|
Bare: Urban Studio......Erica or any of the stylists there. They listen and do what you ask....I do my own color...easier and less expensive.

With gel nails, a week later and I'm still admiring my nails! Thanks Beady, I'll try Erica for my hair. |
I have question for you all. I have baby fine hair that goes straight in humidity instantly...you know like if someone sneezes in a room...that raises the humidity enough for my hair.
Anyway my question...short of getting a buzz cut when we move to TV, or learning to love the melted hang dog look, would a wig work? Do wigs go straight in humidity? Are they too hot to wear in the summer months? Does sweat drip out from under the wig, taking with it any and all remaining make-up, as it heads south drenching your body in colored salt water. Hmmm do I give the impression that I don't like humidity? I am serious about the wig part though! |
Susan,
I have the same problem. My hair is so baby fine that I too, have thought of a wig. My friend told me about a volumnizer that is supposed to be much lighter than a wig. You pull your hair through the netting and blend with the wig. I will check this option out. Good luck:) |
That sounds like a wonderful solution, but doesn't the chin strap show??
I don't know how else I could keep it on my head. It sure wouldn't hook to my hair. Please let me know what you find out Shirlee |
