Sandy, I had forgotten about the orange palms of my hands that were that way for weeks. (And thanks. It's fun. Sometimes I make Mr. Boomer read my posts. And then I watch his face to see if he smiles when I write about him. I told him that I called him Mr. Boomer Dundee one time when I wrote about how he saved me from the snapping turtle on the patio. So far. He smiles. Mr. Boomer also smiled when I told the incoming member of the family that he was a trained killer. He went along with it, too. The Groom-to-Be was trying to smile.)

Barb,

Oh I know what you mean. Mr. Boomer always looks good to me, too. He is not colorblind. He just does not have a clue. The only way I used to be able to get him to go shopping for suits was to have a little bit of a snit fit and tell him that I really meant it about his not being allowed to go around in the world looking neglected. It's a jungle out there you know. (You can bring all a husband's other clothes home to him, but not a suit. He has to go with you.)

Another way the prowling females check out a man is to check his grocery cart. If it looks overall pretty healthy, that woman will figure he is married. Mr. Boomer does tend to stock up on cheese when he gets the chance though. I try to balance it out with those cans of sardines I keep handing him for lunch while I sit here writing this stuff.

Oh my gosh! Now that I have relaxed about my dress a little, I am suddenly turning this thread into advice on the care and feeding of husbands. Talk Host will throw me out for not sticking to the topic.

But I am on a roll here and Mr. Boomer is still away on his junket so I may come back in here sometime and tell you about what happened to me at the grocery store and about how I gave a woman on the prowl advice at the bar in the Peabody in Memphis. But we will just hide all this right here in "Quest for the Dress." Maybe TH does not even look.

Boomer

Boomer..... Amazing the number of hits on this thread, "The Quest for the Dress." Did you ever, in this lifetime, believe that you would bring on sooooooo many hits with this subject?

Go figure. It's absolutely hilarious....and so are YOU.

Oh Boomer, I read your QT story and laughed out loud. I did the same slathering on but left off the clorox part. I thought I would look so wonderful with a dark golden tan. I looked like a carrot.

Well, no more advice from me tonight I guess. I just realized that it is almost time for Mr. Boomer to call from his junket location. Maybe he will tell me something I can write about. I am sure that he will not care about hearing about my dress. But that's OK. One time, about 5 years ago, when he went on this annual junket, which I really do encourage because he loves it so, I sold the house. The weird thing about that is that the house had not even been for sale. He still likes me though.

Oh Sam, I just went to send this and the red sign showed up and I looked and there you were looking just like a carrot. How in the world did we ever survive those days? I once turned my hair a lovely shade of olive green.

Boomer--both dresses are gorgeous! I don't know why it always seems the selection is so much improved after I no longer need the dress...but you have certainly found the perfect styles. Can't wait to see a photo!

On the shoe question--I struggled too, but ended up with a pair of very simple silver ballet flats. I was wearing my long skirt and probably would have opted for mid-height heels had I worn knee-length that day--but I still would have gone with a metallic. I just have a hard time finding dyes-to-match that are truly comfortable.

I have had very good luck with both www.zappos.com and www.shoemall.com and www.dsw.com (no, I don't have a closet full of shoes, ladies--just have flat feet with bunions and have to be selective ). All these sites offer huge selections in just about every brand you can name, free shipping AND free returns--seriously, you just pack the shoes back in the original box and print out a label and drop them off at a UPS site at no cost to you. I search by color, heel height, and size; order online (the shoes typically arrive within 3 days); try them on in the comfort of my own home; and return what doesn't work. It could not be easier. Zappos also features customer reviews of each shoe, and I have found most to be extremely helpful and valid.

With regard to a photo of me in my dress--will do when my daughter receives the DVD of all wedding photos. Thanks for asking to see it.

My husband is partially color blind (can't distinguish reds and greens) so I know firsthand about not letting him out of the house unless I pick out his clothing. If he goes on a trip without me, I pack only clothing that will match each other. His friends probably think I'm nuts that I pack him the same color slacks for a whole week, but at least I know that all the shirts I pack will match all week long.

Tanning lotions have come a long way since the days of orange. Jergens makes a lotion that is very subtle and will become darker the more you use it. I haven't had any problems with streaks either. I only use it on my legs. They never seem to get any color and look pasty white compared to the rest of me. Spray tans look nice and are an instant fix. I haven't tried them myself, but my daughter's friend just got married last weekend and she had it done. She looked very natural.

So this thread has expanded to not only be about the dress, but now includes the whole ensemble. (including your legs!)

Hi, just finished reading this topic. What a wonderful way to shop. Don't need a salesperson to help make a decision.

Just post dress on line and get honest opinions.

BBB thanks for starting this. Perhaps it should be a permanent topic.

Good morning Susi and SS,

I had just logged out after having threatened myself that I would indeed turn to stone if I sat here in this kitchen and wrote anything at all this morning.

But then I saw your posts.

Has Boomer actually backed herself into a corner? For a real picture? Time will tell. She did tell you all just yesterday that she looks like that tall thin blond wearing the dress in the picture. Will she allow herself to get caught in a lie?

And SS, darn you. Last night, you would have laughed so much. I was actually standing in front of a full length mirror, having put on a skirt so I could see how my knees looked. Oh, SS, it's not like it used to be. What is? The legs were the last to go. They were never long, but they had their good points. One time some guy in geology class long ago hit on me bc of my legs he said. And they were not long. Still aren't. But I think they said goodbye while I was not watching. What didn't?

And, SS, I got so sidetracked here last night that I forgot to watch that show with Judd Hirsch that somebody told me about and I think it may have been you.

OK, this is an apology to anybody who got this far in this stream of consciousness writing I am doing here this morning. I just looked at "Preview" and saw that I had managed to turn most of it to italics while trying only to turn "Taxi" to italics. If I begin to obsessively edit this thing, I will either hit some stupid key and lose it or I will never get out of here. So anyway, that's what happened and it is all written so I might as well send it. For what it's worth. And if I have now turned the entire rest of this red, too, please forgive me.

It was in a thread somewhere where I was shamelessly confessing those loves from afar, the ones that I have for unattainable men. (Let's see: Charles Kuralt. Carl Hiaasen. Judd Hirsch, but only (so far) as Alex on [i]Taxi.[i] And now I am finding that T. Boone is looking pretty good. And Mr. Boomer has been gone for almost a week. And I have been staying up late. And I think Frazier's dad is starting to look a little hot to me on that old sitcom that is on the Lifetime channel way late.) Anyway, SS, I think it was you who told me. And I did catch Judd at the very end when I remembered last night. And he is looking still cute. So next week I will tune in and see if he still talks to me good, too.

Mr. Boomer really needs to get back here.

(Hey, Good Morning, HB. I just went to send this and I saw you there. Before I go, I have to tell you something. I honestly had not, until last night, put you together with Sidney. I, for some reason, had not figured out that your Sid was our Sid. Duh! I thought in that "Decorating Trends" thread that somebody was confused and thought his house was your house. Helloooo, someone was confused. It was me.

I do stuff like that a lot. I miss stuff. I only realized recently that the Fed Ex logo has an arrow in it. Now, I keep pointing it out on all the trucks that go by. I am beginning to bore people with it.

And I gotta tellya something else. I did not know, until I was a grownup, that prunes started their lives as plums. I guess we all did.

So anyway, say hello to Sid for me.)

And I really must get out of here today.

Boomer in the Morning

Yes, Boomer. I am the one that told you about Judd Hirsch on "Numbers". They are in reruns right now, but since you have never seen the show it would be all new to you. He plays the father to the two male leads in the show. One of them is an FBI agent and the other one is a math genius professor who helps the FBI on some of their cases. He always has some words of wisdom to impart.

Someone should have warned you that you should only look at yourself in full length mirrors in dressing rooms at department stores. I don't know what it is about their mirrors, but I never quite look that good in the outfit once I get it home.

Let us know when you get the dresses!!!

I absolutely love that dress! Our sons wedding is next May and the quest for the dress begins soon! Hope I find one as pretty as yours, if not I may have to ask permission to steal your choice! Very classy.

Hi Girls,

Someday my truck will come. I think it will be on Monday. I do not know if the truck will be brown. Or yellow and red. Or if it might even have that Fed Ex arrow that I was telling you all about this morning. But I am betting on Monday. Maybe Tuesday.

I am getting pretty excited.

And Ronda, no permission necessary. I love it that you think it's classy.

And SS, about those dressing room mirrors, how true. Coldwater Creek is so far gone that I laugh out loud when I am there and then I buy a bunch of stuff.

At home, when I am getting dressed to leave, I always check the full length mirror. I check that mirror second to the last thing I do when putting myself together.

What is the last thing I do?

I put in my contact lenses.

Boomer

. . .And about Judd Hirsch, I am putting him on the calendar.

Sam, do you think we could get T. Boone to grow a gray ponytail? Something tells me that if we ever team up, we could. Of course, I am just running my mouth this morning. I still cannot get Mr. Boomer to grow a gray ponytail. He just looks at me and laughs. He does that a lot.

My loves from afar are never the obvious ones. Never the cliches. And I really can't explain them very well. Ah, why try to analyze shameless love. I know I need to give up on Charles Kuralt. But I still have a place for him in my heart.

I don't know why I remember this stuff. I really do have a life outside of TOTV. But it seems like somewhere in a thread, when I was shamelessly confessing to those loves of mine, someone among us threw caution to the wind, too, and confessed to Ed Asner I think. It may have been just when he was being Lou Grant. You know, I can see that one, also. Maybe I will move Charles Kuralt to a different part of my list and put Ed Asner on it.

OK. I have to get up and out of here. But it would be fun to find out if anybody else has these secret loves from afar. We have talked about a few different things here in "Quest for the Dress."

We have talked about being good little company wives, about women who are on the prowl, about the care and feeding of husbands, about shameless loves for unattainable men who are not cliches. And probably some other stuff, too. So who knows where this will take us while I wait for my dress to arrive.

Boomer

I always had a "thing" for Tom Selleck. It doesn't matter what show or movie he is in, I have to see it. And I have loved them all!!!! And he is still just as handsome as he was when he played Magnum PI.
