Since its inception in October 2013, the Senior vs. Crime Wildwood office has returned a million dollars to the community, according to Ed Kelly, the location’s office manager. “Everybody was elated to pass the million-dollar mark,” said Kelly, of the Village of Hillsborough. “It is a big accomplishment to get that kind of money back.”

Certainly a good and worthwhile program, Many businesses are required to be licensed by the state, how many businesses have had their licenses revoked, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"

Crime against seniors can take many different forms.
We were just taken for $467 to install a kitchen faucet (that we provided). ARK PLUMBING was here for 30 minutes, installed incorrectly and charged us $467! refused an itemized statement and told us that that was the standard rate. BEWARE! Quote:

We moved here in November of 2008. In March or April of 2009, we hired a company to fertilize our lawn with their automatic fertilization equipment which they installed here. After a couple of months, my husband checked and found that there was no fertilizer being released when our sprinklers came on. He called the company and got no response, so we went to Seniors vs. Crime in The Villages. After we provided all the paperwork they needed to prove what the terms of our contract were, they immediately got on our case. The company disputed the charges at first, but eventually gave in and returned our $300 in three equal payments. We were thrilled with the outcome, and would recommend Seniors vs. Crime to anyone who feels they have been cheated or scammed.

http://myfloridalegal.com/webfiles.nsf/WF/KMAN-C23RW8/$file/SvC+2020+Annual+Report.pdf Seniors vs Crime is a corporation that receives about $400K from the State of Florida every year. Some people seem to think that their mission is just to collect information and to assist Villagers who have been cheated by contractors. But, they are actually supposed to assist the Florida Attorney General and law enforcement in prosecuting crimes. In that respect, I would consider the local Villages offices to be a failure regarding the notorious landscaper who has been ripping off Villagers for about 7-10 years. Seniors vs Crime has a file on that company that is about 12 inches thick. Why didn't they prosecute that contractor and it's owner many years ago and prevent hundreds of Villagers from getting ripped off? |

A lot of service Companies that rip people off are very smart.
They'll start a business with guaranties and cheap rates and make all kinds of promises they can't keep. Then when they get over their head, they dissolve the business and its name, then go to work for someone else who also is in this county illegally. They can't prosecute a business that doesn't excite. |
