I have a 2018 Yamaha Drive 2 fleet. The difference in fleet cart and a PTV is lights and gears. I want to get the high end gears in my fleet cart. I get 18mph and researched stock PTV gears will get me up to the 25mph area it 6-7 mph more. Gears new about $325. I don't have the tools to do it myself or I would.

Electric or gas? Gas? 8” or 10” wheels? Just crank the governor rpm’s up. And for those say no look around when you going 20/22 and gas cart flies by you with engine wound up. They haven’t blown yet. 21 or 22 gets you 20 mph up most hills. IMO I would go much higher, but that me.

Pretty sure the OP is talking about gas. Yes, you can get a higher speed on a fleet cart but you are definitely putting more strain on the engine by forcing higher RPMs. As the OP stated the PTVs are geared to allow more speed at less RPM. Most of the carts you see going by over 20 mph are PTVs (but not all). The gear replacement is worth considering if one plans to keep the cart several years.

OP, I bought mine as a PTV so I don't have any useful info on cost to do this.

And you now own an unlicensed low speed vehicle, so if you get into an accident, you might find your insurance company will NOT honor your coverage, as normal golf cart insurance does not cover low speed vehicles. Our cart is set for 20 mph, we rarely get passed, but we do not care, we are retired and not in a hurry for anything.
IMHO, be sure you research this before you jump for the higher speed.

Let’s see $325 for gear and how much for labor? I bet it’s way over 325 for cracking transaxle open? For 2 or 3 mph I’d just adjust governor (which what it’s for to control speed) but that me. 25 is illegal unless plans on licensing it. I could make mine go 30 but I won’t do it.

Too bad deputy’s don’t do their jobs and ticket golf carts in diamond lanes exceeding 22 plus mph.

A 10 mm box end wrench will get you what you need…or a zip tie so you can cut it when you get in a wreck and the Insurance company investigates…

I have done the gears sets in 2 yamaha carts. You don't need any specialty tools, just hand tools, a jack and jack stands. If you aren't mechanically inclined then I wouldn't suggest doing it. Any decent golf cart mechanic can do it. It does drop the rpms down considerably and will make your engine last longer in my opinion. Just because it allows more speed doesn't mean you have to go faster. Most of the Corvettes I see traveling around TV are going 35 to 45 even though they can go 160. Call Todd Casey.
