I will be buying a house south of 466A this spring and see that the Continental Golf Club and Miona Lake golf club are close by. Has anyone played at either of these two clubs and are they comparable to the Villages golf courses? All comments would appreciated.

Miona lakes fairway are not nearly as nice and some holes are very close together and balls are flying all over the place. Continental is much nicer, like a up north course with tree lined fairways.

I have not played continental, but have played Miona Lake several times. It is reasonable and easy to get on, but most definitely not up to Villages standards. It offers a low cost alternative to get in 18 but not a track that I would like to play often. My favorite off campus course is spruce creek south. They have some good special offers and it is a nice track.

I enjoy Del Webb's Eagle Ridge up a little way on 441. Good deals, 27 holes, and always in nice shape. Continental is always fun with the 8:30/1:30 shot gun start. It's pretty easy to get on, very close to the southern part of TV, and a challenging tree lined course. I agree with the other posters that The Links @ Spruce Creek South is a nice convienent course too. About 15 miles away on Rt 27 in Leesburg is Arlington Ridge which is wide open, doesn't have many hazzards, has huge greens, and is easy to score on. Just below AR is Plantation. 27 holes with nice elevation changes. Always in nice shape the times I've played it. My favorite nine there, is Crane's Roost. |

I agree with the posters above, but don't forget Stonecrest, just across the road from Spruce Creek. It is always in good shape. Water Oak and Lake Diamond are 'fair', like Miona, but even cheaper. The best "close by" course IMO is Silver Springs Shores. If you're going to include Arlington, you now are in a radius as far as 45-60 minutes from TV. Included then are Stone Creek, Summerglen and (the best kept secret) Royal Oak. Spruce Creek Preserve used to be better. Mission Inn and Deer Island are top notch. Watch for deals there, even in the winter. Disney's Celebration is now offering deals to TV'rs. Looking forward to playing there soon. Finally, the 75 minute drive to World Woods is really worth it.

I have played Continental and it is a very nice course for the price. I am in favor of leaving my garage with my sticks in my cart so I prefer The Villages courses, but for 30 dollars, you cannot beat the Continental course.

Baseline is in great shape but a relative short course. In addition, "first come-first serve" at Baseline so you don't make a tee time. Continental is a great course for a golfer that can hit a straight drive! It is close to TV and in great shape. Miona is inexpensive and you get what you pay for! But better than staying cooped up in the house. FORE!
