With optimal launch conditions at 84 mph, you can't carry a golf ball 210 yards.
That is correct. I am up to 88 mph.

The average golfer doesn't understand, that even PGA Tour players, go through similar struggles as you mentioned, but the average player doesn't see it, because the Tour guys can still shoot 72, with their "C game".

Again, I hate to offer "swing tips", but I'll offer you a "swing drill" that works 90% of the time, on the days you wake up and feel like you've never swung a golf club before.

Go to the range with only your 6 or 7 iron. Choke up about 2" on the club. Start with a 50%-60% swing, hitting with your feet together (touching each other). Stay at 50%-60% until you're making solid, straight contact, then move up to 70%-80%. (Hit off a low Tee if you have to).

This drill (stolen from Nick Faldo) keeps your body in sync, reminds you what good contact feels like, but most importantly .... forces a "swing feeling", which is what amateur golfers often lose (especially when you have a laundry list of swing thoughts).
That's a good one. Thanks again.

Default Increase Jim Hardy rating

Life is funny, went to the range to work on flighting woods and increasing driver speed.

The fellow next to me was ****ed at his swing. With lousy ball contact etc etc
I looked and sure enough his power source was his upper body, torso turn. His lower body was too active for it to work. I asked him if he would like a suggestion because I was getting tired of his ranting. I quieted down his lower body and amazing he started striping the ball well with smaller dispersion and better contact. I think he stayed for 2 more buckets in disbelief.

As I was leaving I saw a fellow I had introduced left dominant swing feel. He was activating his hips instead of his left foot. Once he got the left foot push in place he started striping the ball.

Oddly these were 1 and 2 plane swing, BUT, I did not care about the planes, I cared about the power source. So hardy gets another 2 points which brings him to a 3 but I have to take 1/2 point away for a bad book title. It's really about your power source and how to use it.

As far as more clubhead speed a wider stance is needed for balance of course, look at long drive guys. And yes they have a longer swing but it's not the hidden gem that causes their distance and they don't hit it straight anyway. Too much speed kills in some way, balance or direction. The clues are narrowing to the answer.

The shot put drill may be problematic if you do not maintain your spine angle and and lift your head up

Most people over 60 can't make a real swing, without lifting their heel and anyone who tells you that you can't move your head in the golf swing, doesn't know what he's talking about.
