Default St. Timothy’s ending 2 pm Saturday mass

Unfortunately, this is Bishop Noonan's mandate. The churches have no choice. No Saturday Vigil Mass may take place before 4PM. St. Vincent de Paul is also being forced to change their 3:30PM Saturday Mass back to 4PM. They had changed it to 3:30PM specifically to alleviate traffic congestion with people arriving for the 6PM Mass. Now that they have to move it back to 4PM, the bishop's solution is to move the 6PM to 6:30PM. The whole thing is ridiculous! All this for 30 lousy minutes. I'm going to miss the 2PM at St. Tim's, as well.

Much truth to that. Methinks that evangelical atheists are as tiresome as evangelicals of any other stripe.

I wonder...are collections tracked by the date and time of the service they're gathered from?

So if it is the Bishop's mandate, what was the Synod on Synodality all about?

The whole purpose of it was to foster a more participatory, communicative, and missionary Church through dialogue, discernment, and shared decision-making.

I find it interesting that Catholics agree with Jews that the named day (such as Friday) starts at night. Picked the wrong time (sunset changes every day) but it does closely align with God saying, "It was the evening and morning, Day 1" so I say good enough.

But I do find it silly that Catholics believe Jews are incapable of counting to 7, so they couldn't possibly know the Sabbath is on Saturday.

Any Catholics able to explain why the Church believes Jews cannot count to 7?

As an aside, Judism says non-Jews.do.not have a command to honor the Sabbath. Non-Jews only need to follow the Noahide Laws (rules God gave to Noah and all his descendants).

Hopefully enough other times are available for Mass at St Tim's that this won't be too big of a hassle for people.

My problem is that they also announced on Sunday that BOTH Father Ralph AND Father Tom are being reassigned by mid-June!!! We have two great priests and the esteemed Bishop feels taking both away is OK. No feedback from the parishoners at all. Not a fan of this heavy handed action!!!!!

Ah! Is Father Ralph back? Can I stop praying for his recovery? (I am up north at this time.)

BTW the RC is under episcopal polity which means hierarchy and is NOT a democracy.

The Synod on Synodality:

Changes Not Permitted
Doctrinal Revisions: The Synod is not designed to, nor does it have the authority to, change fundamental Catholic teachings regarding matters like holy orders (male-only priesthood), marriage, or human sexuality.
Democratization: The Church does not function as a democracy. Popular majority vote cannot overturn established dogmatic truths, as the synod emphasizes communal listening to the Holy Spirit rather than secular-style political lobbying.
Unilateral Departure from Universal Law: While local bishops' conferences have wider pastoral latitude, they are not permitted to enact changes that conflict with universal canon law or the universal Magisterium of the Church.

In response to OP’s question: Universal Canon Law defines the legal parameters for when a Mass can be held to fulfill your Sunday obligation.

Forgive me, but where do you get this idea? I have never heard of it before? About counting. The Lord has great compassion to allow the Noahide Laws;
The seven laws are:

Establish Courts of Justice: Maintain a fair and honest legal system to enforce the other six laws.
Do Not Blaspheme: Do not curse or speak sacrilegiously against God.
Do Not Commit Idolatry: Do not worship false gods or engage in idol worship.
Do Not Commit Murder: Do not take a human life.
Do Not Commit Sexual Immorality: Prohibits incest, adultery, and other illicit sexual relationships.
Do Not Steal: Prohibits theft, robbery, and kidnapping.
Do Not Eat the Limb of a Living Animal: Prohibits cruelty to animals, specifically the consumption of flesh torn from a living creature.

But later there was also a New Testament, or covenant if you like. And it became possible to be saved by grace - which did not negate the Noahide laws, but allowed a way to be forgiven even if one failed but fully repented, and giving the Lord not an actual lamb as in the olden days, but the sacrificial lamb who Christians call Jesus Christ.
