I don't understand cryptocurrencies, so I will never be tempted to utilize them, but their claim to be safer than bank deposits is proving rather thin.

Maybe governments don't know where your money is, but the hackers do.

NORDIC ATEA is the first of many to become useless because of AI. Now that blockchain hacks are reality, what could be next?

The WSJ had something suggesting it was our friends in North Korea, talked to a code writer I know, his take it from something on a much lower level than a state operation ?

What you are missing is the fact with AI, nothing is safe. Your stocks, bank accounts, homeownership deeds, vehicle registrations, medical records.. are the tip of the iceberg. Nothing will be safe.

Atea has not become “useless because of AI.” Atea is a large Nordic/Baltic IT-infrastructure and services company, and its most recent Q3 results, released October 22, 2026, were actually strong: gross sales up 12.6%, revenue up 16.9%, EBIT up 16.5%, and net profit up 23.4%. Atea itself says AI is driving additional demand for data-centre infrastructure, security and computing capacity.

In fact, Atea’s management has been arguing almost the opposite of that claim. Earlier this year its CEO described AI as essentially an upside for Atea, because its business is largely infrastructure, hardware, cloud, security and implementation—not simply selling human coding hours that an LLM might replace.

The hack part is real, and today’s story is enormous: Binance says roughly $6.3 billion in crypto assets was stolen from its hot-wallet infrastructure. But this distinction is crucial: the blockchain itself has not been “cracked.” The current investigation points to Binance’s systems for authorizing transactions being compromised. Binance says it has found no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked, and the full attack path is still under investigation.

And crypto exchanges, wallets and smart contracts have been hacked for years. What’s striking about the Binance attack is the scale, not the invention of blockchain hacking in 2026.

Where AI does change the picture is that it can make cyberattacks cheaper, faster and more scalable. Atea itself now identifies AI-enabled attacks as a reason organizations will have to spend more on cybersecurity.

So when it is asked “what could be next?”, the more credible areas to watch are identity theft and highly convincing phishing, software-supply-chain attacks, cloud and API misconfigurations, attacks against AI agents that have permission to act, and automated discovery of previously unnoticed software vulnerabilities.

But that’s quite different from: “AI has made Atea useless, blockchain has fallen, what’s next?”

That first sentence looks like somebody trying to make a dramatic AI-disruption story out of two unrelated developments. And amusingly, Atea may actually be one of the companies that earns more money because everybody is scared of the second one. 😄

AI is increasing the speed and sophistication of some cyberattacks, so security practices have to improve too.

The irony is that AI is also being used on the defensive side — fraud detection, anomaly detection, malware analysis, code review, threat hunting, and scam identification. So it’s not AI versus safety. It’s increasingly AI on both sides of the security contest.
