With gold over $4,600 an ounce and silver in the mid $90’s, is anyone else thinking of offloading some of their holdings? I’m mighty tempted.

I am not a top expert, but I think Gold and especially Silver will go up much more in price.
Since it's a hassle, risky, costly and heavy to actually hold physical gold and silver, I invested in ETF fund "SLV" and "GLD" which follow the price of Gold and Silver. With ETF fund, I simply put a "stop loss" order with my broker so if the price of Gold or Silver goes down by a certain amount, than automatically sell. ... and I enjoy retirement without any worries. As for physical gold and silver: very hard to find a dealer that will buy for a reasonable price. So I always avoided physical gold and silver. Best of luck to you! The value of a paper contract for gold or silver that cannot deliver physical metal is zero. Every ounce of physical gold and silver has over 100 owners under the current system. Possession of physical gold and silver is the only way to preserve wealth. Unless you need the cash, it makes no sense to sell gold or silver. The purchasing power of the fiat dollar is diminishing, which makes the price of gold and silver seem to rise.

As tempting as it is, multiple factors favor a continued run up in value. Look no further than the decline of the US dollar versus other major currencies, underreporting of actual inflation, overreporting of economic growth, a relentless pursuit to lower interest rates whatever the consequences, many equity indices at or near all time highs, and world chaos on multiple fronts. It’s not unreasonable to expect that gold could rise to well above $5K per Troy ounce during 2026.

The value of physical Gold or Silver become instantly zero when it's stolen. No alarms or trends before that happens. To prevent stealing of physical Gold you need to spend $$$ constantly (safe, alarms, etc). So, most people rely on brokers that "store" the physical Gold / Silver for them... for $$$. And if you think you can 100% trust those dealers... Instead, put a "stop loss" order with your broker when the value your "paper" investment goes down to a certain level and you have absolutely nothing to worry about. The broker will automatically sell your investment when it goes down to the price you pre-determined. All the best to you. |

I cashed in a bunch of silver ingots and a few silver dollars last week at Bob's Gold & Jewelry.
Not only was I fine taking $5 less than the spot price (established the minute I was let in the locked door), but their relative quickness and professionalism, means I'll be going back real soon regarding selling some gold stuff. |

I've been seriously considering adding some actual gold and silver to my "bug out kit". Of course when things honestly get that bad. Lead will carry a lot of value in various ways. And I've got a lot of that on hand. |

When you buy physical gold or silver, you pay extra $$$ above the real value gold/silver. When you sell, you get less $$$ then the value of silver/gold. In contrast, I buy the "GLD" and "SLV" ETFs from the convenience of my home and sell it also at the convenience of my home without any worries about the gold/silver being stolen or lost or paying any fees. P/S: I am not an expert, but please don't buy silver or gold now. They broke record prices. You missed the boat. Have a nice day. |

If things really get that bad. Flour, wheat, meat, skills all become valuable barter, more so than a precious metal. I suppose once you get to Mad Max type stuff, lead and water will have much more value than any "precious metal". Of course if you are referring to investing (buying and selling) you are right. It's time for metals to possibly correct. Last edited by Ruger2506; 01-16-2026 at 04:13 PM. |

When did that last happen? In Zimbabwe they simply paid with paper USA Dollars (black market). Try today to pay for anything with Physical gold you have. Any chance someone would accept your gold as payment today? Gold is also quite easy to fake. You need special equipment to make sure the gold is actually gold. Can you tell if a gold coin is 100% gold or just 80% gold? Also, say you have small gold coin worth $500 and you need buy food for $100. Are you going to get "change"? Please spare yourself and your mental well-being from a paranoia that "end of the world may come" and only if you have gold you would survive. Quote:

They ( 99%) of them that are buying will flat Rip you off. This is why I buy Gold and Silver Stocks.
Have about $10,000 in gold jewelry my Mother left me and you'd be amazed at how many will try and give you 50% of what the real value is. Took me several tried but I've learned people and jewelers will screw you in a heartbeat trying to buy your Gold. ALWAYS ALWAYS GET AT LEAST 3 DIFFERNT ESTIMATES |
