Default Senior Moment!

This is dedicated to all of us who are seniors,

to all of you who know seniors,

and to all of you who will become seniors.

It pays to be able to laugh about it when you are!

*

"WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!"

The irate customer calling the newspaper office,

loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.

"Madam", said the newspaper employee, "today is Saturday,

The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY".

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone,

followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter,

"Well, siht, so that's why no one was at church today."

Thank you for my morning chuckle ! It happens. Actually, the last sentence brought back memories of my own mom when she was in her early 80's and recently widowed. Without her spouse to remind her of certain appointments, and calendar notwithstanding, she would walk to the neighborhood church several times a day, thinking it was Sunday.

She would also walk down to her neighborhood beauty salon, thinking it was her appointment date. Other than this "confusion" she was in tip top physical shape and "on the surface" most people wouldn't realize it was the beginning of her eleven year journey with Alzheimers Disease.

I would get calls about missing keys (in the frig just like that t.v. commercial), missing purse (behind the couch, etc.) and other things.

Plants and flowers we sent to her would disappear. Food I placed in the frig, ditto. She would carry around with her a piece of paper with her name and address written on it. To remind herself. Later, caregivers at an adult daycare center told me that "Your mom is different than most in that she KNOWS she is confused.".

Little did I know what a long journey it would be........her early stage lasted for quite a while.......then the middle stage and finally the end stage which was only about 18 months duration. Nancy Reagan was correct when she said that it was the "Long Goodbye".

Not to say that everyone who confuses one day with another occasionally is heading for dementia or Alzheimers...........but the warning signs are confusion and I had no clue at that time. It was a learning experience that I'm sure a lot of people in TV have gone through with their own parents, etc., etc. We could all write a novel;-)

But, I did chuckle reading it. Thanks again.

It's because we can all relate or visualize some of these jokes that really makes them funny and personal. Senior C, glad you enjoyed it. God knows we'll all be there one day.
