Default 5 favorite musicals or operas you enjoyed?

My favorite musical is still My Fair Lady which I saw in 1957. I liked Phantom of the Opera and in recent enjoyed Mamma Mia. Saw "South Pacific" in Arena Theater DC but I still like the original movie version with Rosano Brazzi and Mitzi Gaynor. With opera perhaps Tosca, La Traviata, Don Giovani.

So many great choices! I'm not much of an opera person (although I did sing in the chorus of "Aida" in college) and I have performed in/directed many musicals. My "favorties" tend to the traditional, and I'm not as familiar with some of the great shows of late (Rent, The Heights, Book of Mormon, etc), so here's my list. And #5 could be a list about 20 long.

1. The Music Man (has to be my favorite, I've portrayed Harold Hill in 3 separate productions and directed a 4th)
2. Guys and Dolls
3. Phantom of the Opera
4. How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
5. Fiddler On The Roof

I saw HAIR when it first opened in California...
Got to see Patti Lupone in EVITA
Anthony Quinn in ZORBA
Those were MY highlights!

I have loved ALL I've seen through the years with the exception of THE ADDAMS FAMILY.
Even with Bebe Neworth and Nathan Lane, it was painful. I left at intermission, first time ever.

Sorry I missed SPAMELOT.... !
(The Shubert Theatre in Chicago was my favorite venue.)

Surprisingly, that wasn't as difficult to learn as I thought it would be. I had it cold by the 4th production when I was just directing.

Haven't seen one in awhile, but my faves:

1. The Rothschilds with Hal Linden (first musical I ever saw)
2. A Chorus Line (cry every time I see it)
3. Phantom
4. Fiddler on the Roof (another tearjerker for me)
5. Guys n Dolls

Not much of an opera fan, but talk to me about the ballet!
