Believe it or not, my friend and I used to ride the subway, from the Bronx, all over the city. We were about 7 at the time. Our parents would have killed us! I was one of the few who was calmer as a teen than I was in grammar school!

That is very cool Linda,Thankyou for starting! Yes, I agree if our parents knew half the things we did then we might not be alive to tell about it today! LOL

Climbed Rattlesnake Mountain in my bare feet when I was around 13 years old?? That's the mountain (really a high hill) that is two inches from the right near the top below the higher mountains around Reno, Nevada in this picture. http://nevadamax.com/page16/rm.html
It is the hill with the very small cliff face near the bottom. I was smart enough though to go around the cliff. |

My was a continual thing. I wanted to fly so very, very bad. I tried everything -- umbrella, balloons, sheet for a parachute, gliding cause I was just an itty bitty thang .... I jumped from trees, barn lofts, barn roofs, third floors, small overhangs. I broke a few bones and it was a small miracle I didn't kill myself.
As a teen, my major bonehead move was hitchhiking from NJ to CA. Mom had been sick and I had to stay with some friends for the last half of my junior year. Oscar took me to the airport to fly home but couldn't stay. I cashed in the ticket and started hitching. Amazingly, not a bit of trouble the whole way -- some couples did offer me money to take a bus home and fed me, etc. When I hit AZ, I called my brother to come get me. Mom never knew what I had done (I'd called her and said I was staying with a friend for a couple of weeks before flying home and Oscar just assumed I'd told Mom I was on my way home).

Tied ropes to an old overstuffed chair that someone had thrown out in the alley, put it on a small moving dolly and took each other on some wild and crazy rides thru the alleys of Chicago. We did have to be more creative when we were kids, dont ya think? 1rnfl

When I was about 5 my parents were having a big birthday party for us. :joke: The kids were all in the backyard when my mom said to all their friends, "look how cute, the kids are playing croquet". At that point my cute 3 yr. old sister got in my way and I cracked her head open with the mallet. Yes the ambulance was called. Several stitches needed. PARTY OVER!!! >

Love this topic Nonie---
I was a big rule follower as a kid; however, as folks remind me, I met my husband, Jim, when I was very young (and immature), and eloped 6 weeks later. He was older, and I adored him. We were married over 30 years--very happy years too, and had two great kids--He was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and passed away 7 years ago. ![]() Hope to see all the folks I met when I was down there(end of April) again soon---and meet the folks I haven't yet met, but feel I know from enjoying TOTV quite often. Thanks again, Nonie md blondie

Met four other girls in kindergarden and literally became best friends from day one. Went through grade school with them and high school and am still close with them now although we are scattered all over the country. Going to see one of them in Vegas in a couple of weeks. So that's the background. You can imagine in all of those years, we did many crazy things. Elyse, Maria, Kathy, Sandy and me!
Early on we would emulate movies or movie stars. I would be Katharine Hepburn and maybe Elyse would be Rita Hayworth, or Kathy would be Doris Day, etc. So we'd stay in character, even in classes. Drove everyone nuts! This was a grade school thing. Also if we loved a movie, that's what we were. Like the Nun's Story. We were all Nun's for quite some time with towels on our heads. Bell, Book and Candle was another favorite. We were all witches. That lasted a really long time. And I can't remember what movie prompted it but our teachers nicknamed us "The Gun Girls" we carried cap pistols. (Confiscated many times.) Even in freshman High School, we decided to be The Beatles for a while. Elyse was George, Maria was Ringo, Kathy was John and I was Paul. Sandy didn't participate because she was too busy getting pregnant! Hal-lo! So these friendships are over 50 years and we've been through it all together. From cutting out of lunch in grade school to swing upside down from the bars in the bathroom stalls to the Halloween egging of cars (police pulled us in and called our parents.) I was driving, Maria was shotgun, sneaking each other out of the windows of our houses to go into the city to Rush Street. All the way through marriages, divorces, pregnancies, more marriages, more divorces. (Elyse is attempting her 5th marriage!) These wonderful girls and I just clicked from day one. Just like Nonie, Barefoot and I. And the adventures will continue with my new friends, I hope, because there's one thing I know for sure. I don't ever want to be an adult. :joke:

Chels,
Thanks for the memories, that was sooo funny. We Chicago girls must have been a little bit nuts. My gradeschool friends and I used to stand out in the schoolyard at recess and sing pop songs to the whole school like we were famous performers. The kids used to watch us spellbound and we thought we were absolutely wonderful!!!!OMG Im embarrassed just hinking about it. Im embarassed thinking about it too!
