That is a beautiful song, Frank. Thanks for sharing it. I think Ava Maria is among the most beautiful songs ever written. Oh Holy Night, [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jr-2eyRtV4"]Oh Holy Night [/ame](Celine Dion singing it!)is also one of my favorites.

Silent Night. And especially at Wolftrap with the Marine Corp band. It is always the last song they do as everyone lights candles and leaves the auditorium.

Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful- reminds me of attending midnight mass as a child. O Come all Ye Faithful was always the processional and Silent Night was always sung after communion, everyone was kneeling, the lights were turned off and we sung Silent Night by candlelight (you memorized the words quickly as you couldn't see your hymnal!)

Brooklyn, great picks.
So many wonderful postings and links.
Flashing back to the 50's, we remember singing all the carols in school chorus and playing them in school and youth band.
It didn't matter that our suburban DC school (Langley Park)was 50% Jewish. Everyone got off for Christmas break and 'Happy Holidays' was not even heard of - if we remember right, it came well after 'Have a Nice Day" and even the yellow happy face , right?

Anyway, Sandler's song is a chuckle and it's always been ok to point a little fun at one's own.
This one came to mind, funny but not a top pick. Tom Lehrer was a genius nonetheless

Whether you knows it or not, your two picks were both written by Jewish songwriters, and amazingly, so were many of the top 25.
This is most interesting:

Merry Christmas , Happy Holidays!

that's up there alright
and david seville was an innovative and talented writer and musician

There are dozens of top 5/ten/20-plus lists, and we thought it was us so we never spoke out at how bad some are

careful with this site- when you mouse over the perpetrating 'song' it plays
and you could get the tune in your head and have a tough night

Found it.....enjoy

I Need A Silent Night Lyrics

I've made the same mistake before
Too many malls, too many stores
December traffic, Christmas rush
It breaks me till I push and shove

Children are crying while mothers are trying
To photograph Santa and sleigh
The shopping and buying and standing forever in line
What can I say?

I need a silent night, a holy night
To hear an angel voice through the chaos and the noise
I need a midnight clear, a little peace right here
To end this crazy day with a silent night

December comes then disappears
Faster and faster every year
Did my own mother keep this pace
Or was the world a different place?

Where people stayed home wishing for snow
Watching three channels on their TV
Look at us now rushing around
Trying to buy Christmas peace

I need a silent night, a holy night
To hear an angel voice through the chaos and the noise
I need a midnight clear, a little peace right here
To end this crazy day with a silent night

What was it like back there in Bethlehem
With peace on earth, good will toward men?

Every shepherd's out in the field
Keeping watch over their clock by night
And the glory of the Lord shone around them
And they were so afraid

And the angels said fear not for behold
I bring you good news of a great joy that shall be for all people
For unto you is born this day a Savior, who is Christ the Lord
And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace

I need a silent night, a holy night
To hear an angel voice through the chaos and the noise
I need a midnight clear, a little peace right here
To end this crazy day with a silent night
To end this crazy day with a silent night

IMHO - Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire sung by Nat King Cole is when I feel Christams Season is here.

White Christmas by Bing Crosby is my second favorite.

Day after Christmas and Direct TV music stations don't have Christmas music on anymore - too bad, they were a welcome change from the normal programming.
