There is a great deal of black mold on the branches and on the fans for multiple palms. Neighbor mentioned it appeared to be a bad case of aphids. Any suggestions for self treatment or a good commercial service?

Fill a quart-sized spray bottle with lukewarm water. Add 2 tablespoons of dish detergent. Do NOT shake that up. Just give it a little swish to get the detergent diluted into the water (obviously, put the water in first or you'll end up with a bottle full of suds).
Spray generously on affected areas. The aphids should drop off within minutes and die. |

In addition, it’s very possible your palms are getting too much irrigation water. If so, you can redirect the sprays. Established palms don’t need watering except in very unusual drought conditions.

You have gotten great recommendations from previous post, granny always said liquid ivory soap is best used to fight off aphids n maybe whiteflies, she said soak the plants but protect the soil n roots from the soap! Some plants can use a little thinning out to let the sun and air in to prevent moldy situations! In the cooler months plants don’t need as much water and rains normally are adequate for the plants to survive unless in small pots. A trick I have grown to love is that the right plants can fight off those pests that destroy, most times. Planting marigolds, dill, cilantro, garlic and other plants really repel aphids. Petunias also but at times must be the right types. Herbs are our best friends in fighting bugs most of the time

Infestation was severe and on every fan palm so need to purchase a commercial product Dominion XL and a sprayer from Ace Hardware that did the trick plus the application protects the fan palms for an additional three months.
