Wind resistance and screened lanais
I wonder what the windspeed would have to be to make screen perform as a solid substance? Is it 35 MPH? I have heard that some people cut their screens before a big blow. That seems crazy to me. What if it doesn't blow that hard?? Engineers, we need your input.

That's good to know, smalldog. Do you remember what your maximum sustained winds were?

Re: Wind resistance and screened lanais
We've been talking to T&D concrete about putting a birdcage extension on our lanai...they say their construction is rated to withstand Category 3 hurricane...not sure if that is just the structure or also the screen (unless those flying shingles come ripping by).

Re: Wind resistance and screened lanais
07, I think they are referring to the structure only. I would be surprised if the screen could stand up to that force and remain intact.
