Default Anyone experience leg pain which is worse when trying to sleep?

Does anyone have or know someone who has leg pain which can be tolerated during the day, but is worse at night? Waking you up at night? My DH has been to various doctors to check his blood flow, nerves, etc. Numerous tests, but nobody seems to know what is wrong with him. It seems to be a mystery because it gets worse at night. PM me if you don't want to post here.

Is this perhaps Restless Leg Syndrome which feels like pins and needles, or "creepy crawlies"? If so, its treatable with Ropinerole or Requip

In 2003 I had terrible pain in my hands and I couldn't sleep unless I sat upright in bed. After a neurology test I had severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands and I had two surgeries which relieved all the pain.

Two years later I had the same pain in my legs. After a similar neurology test on my legs they said I had diabetic neuropathy but unfortunately there is no surgery for that condition. I started taking a drug called Neurontin or the generic name Gapentin morning and night and I've never had the pain since.

My Mom has restless leg syndrome and takes the generic of Mirapex -- Pramipexole. The funny thing s my late father's cardiologist told her about Mirapex in one of Dad's visits! Mirapex is really for Parkinson's Disease but she says it really works for restless leg syndrome.

I had the same sort of pain a few years ago, and we finally determined it was a reaction to Lipitor. I switched to zetia and the pain disappeared.

the "leg" goes from the hip to the toes, It would be helpful to know the area of the leg that hurts at night to be able to relate (or not) and perhaps offer an opinion.

Try a bar of soap under the sheets (from the Internet)

According to Andrew G. Kowal, MD, a pain management specialist at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts, the theory behind this home remedy is that a bar of soap will give off the chemical magnesium, which will relieve you of leg cramps.

While there is no scientific evidence supporting this theory, Dr. Jim Sears of the daytime show The Doctors, conducted a twitter poll. Of the respondents, 42 percent of people allegedly used soap to alleviate nighttime leg cramps.

Additionally, it is also rumored soap can relieve pain in restless leg syndrome (RLS). RLS is a disorder where an individual has a sudden urge or need to move his or her legs to stop unpleasant sensations. In another popular medical television show, The Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Mehmet Oz stated placing a bar of lavender soap under the sheets can alleviate RLS. He believes the scent of lavender is relaxing and may be beneficial for the health condition.

My parents use this technique and it seems to work for them.

Try sleeping on your side with pillow between your knees, this helps align hips to relieve pressure. Soap works for me ( I use Ivory brand)
Taking a warm bath with Epsom salts or lavender oil drops in water soothes anxiety.

My husband has those symptoms and it is a herniated disc, the nerves are what is causing it. You may want to call pain management. They are giving him steroid shots back there. just a thought. Hope you feel better.

Default Hydration will definitely help leg cramps at night

To alleviate leg cramps at night, drink plenty of water. You can drink any type of water (sparkling water will work as well). It is wise to stay away from too much alcohol and/or coffee. Drinking water is the key.

It does sound similar to restless leg syndrome, which does feel worse at night........a topical remedy that can't hurt, & is very soothing, would be Super Blue Stuff OTC.....they also have a restless leg cream for leg comfort. You can go to their website.

My sister in law was diagnosed with r.l.s. , put on a Parkinson's Disease pharmaceutical drug............

He might be iron deficient? Add some raisins to his snacks.....
Ditto for any fruits high in magnesium......prunes, raisins...etc.

Super Blue Stuff OTC now also contains eleven therapeutic herbs:

• Menthol from the Peppermint plant • Marigold (Calendula) Flower
• Coriander Seed Oil • Cornflower or Bluebottle
• Feverfew • German Chamomile
• Lime Tree Flower also called Linden • Nettle
• Roman Chamomile • Willow Bark
• Witch Hazel
Usage of these herbs can be traced back to the 1600s in the United states and as far back as 5000 BC. Records show they have been used to help the body with:
• Relief of Headaches and Migraine Headaches
• Remedies for sprain and swelling
• Powerful anti inflammatory characteristics
• Relief of Painful Joints
• Neuralgia (painful disorder of nerves)
• Improved Characteristics that are considered Tonic which means invigorating and stimulating
• Insect bites
• Arthritis (check the National Arthritis foundation to see there are over 100 different forms of Arthritis – you may not even know you have it)
• Healing qualities
• Promotion of sweating to help fevers
• Counter irritation – this means they have irritating chemicals that are released when they come into contact with the skin – however, when they come into contact with an area of the body already in pain, the chemicals can actually help to decrease the original pain. Nature is amazing.
• Ease of discomfort associated with joints, muscles and inflammation.
• Pain relieving and fever reducing qualities
• Treating bruises
• Some of these herbs in their natural form have been said to be more effective and safe than aspirin.
