Through my BCBS federal insurance I get 180 5mg doses for $95 from CVS Caremark.

I got curious and comparison shopped popular discounters for 6 different medications, both generic and brands.

Healthwarehouse: US based. Slight discount from VERY high US list prices for medications still under patent protection

Canadapharmacy: Can be 50% off US list prices, but way overpriced for non-US (offshore) sourcing

Canadaprescriptionsplus: Competitive offshore pricing. 50% to 80% off US prices

DrugmartDirect: Canada based and sourced worldwide. Most competitive offshore pricing. Up to 50% less than Canadaprescriptionsplus. I've been using them for "all my patent protected medication needs!"


Individual Indian merchants: if you google long enough, there are boutique sellers in India who advertise brand names. Very inexpensive (and no prescription required !!!), but risk of shipments being confiscated by US Customs. 10 - 25% less then lowest prices from branded discounters.

Interesting topic. I found offshore pharmacies or referral services to be legit and that social media like this is invaluable in scrutinizing those services and blowing through the fog being created by US based big pharma.

Tinker: I sent you Eliquis detail in PM (180 tabs Apixaban 5 mg ℞, USD Total incl shipping :$132.80). I also posted my general pricing research above in post #16. It excluded some sourcing suggestions made in this string.

Medicare based drug program pricing can be deceiving, since many have very high deductibles for medications still under patent protection. Once you pass the deductible, the prices can be much lower, so I would suggest doing an analysis for an entire year. In my case, the annual cost for the chosen offshore source was only about 20% lower, even though the initial price comparison was lower by (almost) an order of magnitude.

I ordered maintenance drugs from Canada for years before the drugs I take became available generically. I saved ALOT of money. The quality was supported by my test results which reassured me that I was getting effective meds from a reputable pharmacy. Interestingly, many drugs that are not generic here are already available as generic in Canada. I just checked online for you. The pharmacy I have used in Canada is showing the following: Eliquis is available in both brand and generic name. You may already be aware but the generic name is Apixaban. Canadian packaging and quantities can be somewhat different than what we normally have dispensed. They usually do not come in bottles but rather in packages that you push through the package bottom one pill at a time. A normal 90 day supply is actually 100 that has 10/10 packs in a box.

Here are the generic prices that I found for Apixaban. 2.5mg 30 pills $37.29, 60 pills $52.19 These are the only quantities listed for 2.5mg but you can order more than one pack. 5mg 30pills $79.69, 60 pills $159.29, 120 pills $209.29, 180 pills $312.09.

Under the brand name of Eliquis the following quantities and prices are: 2.5mg 56 pills $87.79/ 112 pills $175.39, 168 pills $263.29 5mg 56 pills $264.99 and 112 pills $501.99. I get a regular email newsletter from them and they have been saying it is taking longer to receive orders because of the supply chain demands during COVID. They have also addressed several times the increasing prices of generics. I always made certain I reordered in plenty of time to allow for shipping. I also found that I could order more than one 90 day supply. My doctor had no problem with me ordering prescriptions from Canada and would write me prescriptions with refills for one year. Make certain that you are ordering from a reputable company. The manufacturing facilities supplying Northwest Pharmacy are located in several countries but these facilities are also producing meds for U.S. companies as well. I found Northwest Pharmacy very trustworthy. I hope you find this helpful.

Do you know what happened to the Most Favored Nation Status Clause, that was signed by the last administration that required pharmaceutical companies to price drugs at no higher than the lowest price they charge anywhere else in the world. If someone knows, one answer will suffice.

Looks like my preferred source is about 1/2 of yours. Also, one should add shipping charges, possible covid surcharges, and (improbable) taxes to the equation. Also make sure it's an ANNUAL "apples to apples" comparison against your Plan D drug plan.

Excellent side bar. My guess is that we will continue to have to do personal comparisons like this. Even IF the current administration stays on this course, my guess is that US based pharma companies will continue to drag their feet to delay erosion of profits. I love free enterprise and pharma's role in our lives (witness vaccine development), but after studying this, I have come to the conclusion that the pricing of patented drugs is less than noble!

$4 (or $3. U.S.) for a 90 day supply. The drugs are free for Ontario residents (65 and older) but the pharmacy charges an administration fee. I am not complaining.
