Default ER visit at The Villages Hospital

OK, maybe I was wrong, or else they’ve gotten better.

Emergency Room Visit 5/17/2018 for husband
Check in : 7:18 A.M.
Nurse Tara came in room ED4 at 7:31, asking questions, then left @ 7:40.
Volunteer asked if I’d like something to drink, looked like she took inventory of cabinet. @ 8:17

8:58- Everton (tech) came in to do scan (ultrasound). Batteries died so at 9:01 went in search for new ones.
9:06- tech returned with new battery.
9:12 orthostatic test.
9:17 Dr. Turner came in.
9:20 Dr. Turner left, promising medication, will be ordering tests.
9:43 Tara came in w/meds. Dilaudid for pain, plus anti-nausea med. Pain level at 6 out of 10.
Everton came in at same time to do orthostatic test (part 2?)

10:05 Brittany came to take him for a CAT scan
10:25- returned from CAT scan
10:45-husband told Tara he still had some pain. She to tell dr but said he had a good sized dose to start out.
10:56 Tara reports no more pain meds yet, per dr.

11:10- 11:28 Mia -registration
11:40 - per dr, yep, it’s a kidney stone. Will prescribe anti-nausea and pain med. ok to travel tomorrow.
12:00-got discharged

OP, been there done that (not in TV), I hope they told your hubby the size of the stone, and the expected follow-up. Mine was 8mm, to big to pass, had to be shattered by ultrasound, I was NOT allowed to travel due to size of the stone, due to other complications, had to wait 6 weeks before I could have the stone removed, not fun.
And yes, it appears the time in the ER was much quicker than others have reported. Hope hubby feels better.

I can not imagine being in the ER with my wife, worried sick about her illness, and documenting minute by minute each and every action by hospital personel, just to hurry home and post it on the internet.

It does get better this time of the year......staffing in season is difficult so complaints always increase during that time of the year. We have used the ER a couple times not in season (maybe lucky) and have found them to be competent and caring and time in there was dependent on condition. Glad your experience was also positive although I wince just thinking about a kidney stone

Not our first rodeo. Because of everything I had heard about the ER, I was documenting in case it turned ridiculous. I was fully prepared to pull him out of there and take him to Ocala if there was a terrible wait time. To be fair, I wanted to post how well it went there.

What was worrisome (and not to go into icky detail) is he is on a blood thinner and those stones have prickly points on them.

While renting for a couple of months this past winter I had a visit to The Villages hospital ER on El Camino Real. I don't have the minute by minute details but I was there from 2 PM till 9 PM before being admitted for a "severe life threatening condition". During that time I was in quite a bit of pain. After admitted in took another 2.5 hours before they could get approval from Dr for a pain med. It was a difficult 4 days in the hospital as I am not from the area and this was only the second time in the hospital since having my tonsils out at age nine. I could not understand the Doctors assigned to me because English was not their first language. Oh, as a side note the food was really bad but the nursing staff was very good. Getting discharged was also a nightmare.

Yep. This is how it is. It did not feel to me like I was in the USA.

Really? I have been in the hospital outside of the USA and I’ll take TV anytime.

People...Approximately 111,000 people here and one hospital and you are wondering about wait times. Get a life. If the Villages is going to keep building you think the wait time will get better?
Oh and most of the folks that go there should have gone to Urgent care but do not do so. Bottomline if you do not like the Villages Hospital then don't go and proceed to another hospital.

I too was taken to TVRH (The Villages Regional Hospital) in December with a life threatening heart difficulty. The procedures in the ambulance were skilled and they even took along three firemen, just in case I needed chest compressions. When I arrived there the doctor saw me immediately and continued to read the results of the information that had been relayed to them second to second from the trip over. They were smart, all of them, and kind and immediately told me they thought I had an electrical problem with my heart and called my cardiologist and regular doctor. I was placed in a room, a little room with the nursing staff looking at me and my already wired up self as I awaited a regular hospital room. I was admitted, in fact stayed for eight days over Christmas, not the optimum time to be hospitalized but I had dedicated and very experienced nurses in critical care and some of the worst food ever offered to a human.

I thank them all, I had 12 doctors see me during that time and only two had the same shade of skin as me, but I don't think they cared and I certainly didn't and I hope they didn't think I was hard to understand because sometimes I didn't understand them, but thank God it was not ME taking care of THEM.

The director of nursing was my nurse on Christmas Eve and Christmas, she told me she doesn't have little ones anymore. They were so good to me and each man and woman who cared for me treated me like I was their family member.

I too have been a patient at TVRH...admitted via the ER...during "high season" and twice. The 1st time I could have complained because I was LOW person on the triage list BUT that said---they'd had multiple accidents coming in plus multiple cardiac and stroke patients coming in via ambulance. Do you think their families were thinking those patients in the ER waiting room should be 1st? It put a perspective on my issue for sure. It would take a lot for me to criticize our hospital since I'm not working in those back rooms in life/death scenarios. Of course my issue had a "potential" of being life-threatening, ultimately but I'm trusting those doctors and nurses took that into account as well. I've appreciated the care I've been given, both as an out-patient and in-patient!! I agree with the one OP who stated many of the folks who go to the ER might have considered going to Urgent Care instead! The ER isn't supposed to substitute as a clinic!
