At this rate of vaccines in Sumter County it will take 9 weeks to get everyone over 65 their first shot. And that assuming the number of folks leaving Sumter county to get theirs stays the same.

I hope they start sending more vaccines to Sumter as other counties complete their Senior vaccines. And it would be great if they set up a second mass vaccine area that is closer. Maybe some churches could volunteer their parking lots for Mon-Fri.

Right now the gap between the percentage of those 65-84 and those over 85 who are getting vaccinated is growing. I’m concerned our older folks will find the drive out to Sumterville is too far, and will not sign up for those vaccines, or won’t head out there for their second shot. Is there an organization that is helping our oldest folks to get vaccines?

We signed up on Jan 15th. My wife received her code last week and I received mine almost a week later (couple days ago). We sent them notice that we already had our first shot and have a scheduled second shot in a couple weeks.

They have already announced that WinnDixie, Sam's Club, Publix and Walmart....maybe Walgreen's will have shots available shortly. It won't be long before everyone will find it easier to get their shots locally. I believe I read that on a website......FloridahealthCovid.org??

Both wife and I signed up on the second day of registration, January 12, first thing in the morning. We both received emails when the facility closed, saying we were both on the registration list in the order of our registration and would be contacted when we could make a reservation. My wife received an email about ten days ago. I have heard nothing. We’ve since gotten our Pfizer shots elsewhere. The GMR facility has been so mis-managed I wouldn’t feel confident that if we ever got a shot there that they would still be there or have dosage for a timely second shot.

Despite our governor’s claims, the vaccination program is running MUCH more smoothly in other states and even in other Florida counties. As my doctor in Ocala told me, “You people in The Villages are getting screwed.”

I signed my folks and husband up just before they ran out of vaccines and shut down at Buffalo Ridge the first time. They emailed all 3 of them Thurs and they got their shots yesterday and this morning. Well run site, very quick in and out. It was also a pleasant ride, not too far past Fenney.

We also signed up 1/13, received a text and email 2/18 and are now sitting out our 15 minute wait after receiving our first shot today 2/20. We also received a second email giving us the correct location of Lake Sumter College. Very efficient!

Ha! I have the same date/time as you for vaccination....2/23 at 11:30! Did the drive today to see where the college was. Drive south on 301. Once you get into Sumterville, you will eventually see the large college entrance sign and that is where you turn left. Take that road a bit further and make another left into the college.

The college may not be the permanent location, from what I have read. Possibly our 3/23 11:30am second appointment maybe relocated. We have a month to find out! I am glad you mentioned the additional 4000 doses! Great news for all!

I signed up around 5 am on January 15th.

Like many of you I received the GMR notice recently that my registration is import to them and that someone will be with me shortly... Ok, I paraphrased here.

As of this Wednesday I can't get the damn thing anyway due to pending surgery. No, it's not elective. And how long afterwards I'm not sure yet.

So GMR, I got like four more days before I start wearing a "Beware! I'm Not Vaccinated!" T- shirt.

Ok, I won't but it's all so nuts isn't it?

Default Global Medical disappointment RESOLVED !

My wife, and I were turned away from the Saturday January 16
appointment to receive the Covid vaccine at the Global Medical Response
site in The Villages. That event was deeply disturbing. We felt betrayed
by governmental mismanagement. The Covid-19 nightmare was to continue for
us. As senior citizens, it felt as if the Covid-19 target on our backs had
become far larger and far more vivid. The tsunami of despair loomed ever
larger.

Then, out of the blue, a phone call from a cheerful
individual reported that she was with the department of Health and wanted
to schedule an appointment for the first dose of the vaccine the very next
day. Skepticism wrestled intensely with the hopeful promise of a possible
ending of our Covid nightmare. Worry that a second debacle was on the
horizon grew.

We arrived at the Wildwood Community Center and were greeted by warm
welcomes. Received our injections and were supervised for potential
adverse reactions. Reactions? Yes, joyfully stellar reactions!

We were eager to appear February 19 for the second dose and are profoundly grateful for the efforts of the entire team that worked to resolve the initial failure
that the Global Medical Response organization presented.
