Default Dr. K

She's my GP, and very thorough. Sadly, she moved from SL and is now on 466 and Rolling acres - not cart accessible.

Default Dr. Desai

I had my first visit with Dr. Desai in mid-Feb and a follow-up visit today. I will NOT be going back.

All patient records are on the computer system, no paper files. Seems there were computer problems today and NONE of my records were available for the Dr. to review. This visit was a repeat of my first visit!

The Dr. wrote an order for some new blood tests. When I went to check out and get the order, I questioned some of the personal information on the printout since the address was not correct ... and I haven't had that address in years .... and was never at that address since I filled out new patient paperwork at Dr. Desai's office.

No one could explain why the address was incorrect .. and the office mgr actually said "what do you want me to do, spend hours finding out why it is wrong when you can just bring this order to the lab as it is."

If that wasn't bad enough, when they asked me for the co-pay, they had another insurance company listed! I told them they were making me nervous with all these errors and the office mgr suggested that I "cut the receptionist some slack" since this was her first day. I replied with "how was I supposed to know that - this was only my 2nd visit!"

I'm now starting a search for a new Primary Care Physician. Being new at the Villages I was VERY disappointed by this experience. I plan to do a lot more investigating before making an appt with another Dr.

This is a great idea....investigating a practioner before visiting them! Sometimes, though, that's not possible and one can't tell for sure if this practioner is a good "fit" for them. I've found that within 2 or 3 visits that I pretty much can size up them and the office staff as well and if they'll make the cut so to speak. I e-mailed you privately, as you know, so hopefully somewhere you can find your way through the medical circles offered here in The Villages!!!

What you described can happen....a glitch with the computer...however having wrong information AND the office manager being (what I gather from your post) rude isn't good "customer relations" and for some patients wrong information can be deadly. The front desk is where one makes "first impressions" in my opinion, so this speaks volumns!!!!

Hey, anyone notice the picture above this reply? Seems that now we can check out Hot Girls right from our TOTV site. Seems odd to have that site as a sponsor. I'm dissapointed to see it here, but guess you can't turn down a paying customer.

Now the hot girls aren't there anymore. What is disapointing, imho, is that while many men may like the idea of looking at "hot" girls I personally thinking it is demeaning to most women. Maybe they have moved to another place on the site because I think I saw them somewhere on here yesterday too.
Sorry for the diversion away from Dr. Desai, I know nothing about her.

Mudder - This link should explain a bit about those types of ads:

Microsoft Advertising: Advertising Info

They'll generally be customized for you based on your past internet activity. For example, I buy car parts online occasionally from Advance Auto Parts. All it takes is for me to go browse their web site for a while then ads for them start appearing here and there as I go to other web sites......including TOTV.

Now.....back to the topic of Dr. Desai!

I've seen the "hot girl" ads on several of the pages in the past few days...and I'm sure I haven't browsed any sites that would make them pop up specifically for me.

Back to Dr. Desai...a friend of mine goes to her and she really likes the doctor, but she is not at all impressed with the front office staff.

Thank you Bill or Brillo. This is the most beneficial info about the web that I've gotten in a long time. Answers why I regularly get ads for stuff that I have recently browsed. I followed all the links, and opted out of Microsoft and the other intrusive advertisers. Still, I could not opt-out of advertising from "RichRelevance" and "Doral". I bet they must have some sort of opt-out protection. I will be interested to see how much improvement there is.

Cheers

I have worked in healthcare for 38 years. When we moved here to the Villages, I knew exactly what to look for in a physician. It took several tries, and much research, so when I found Dr. K. Desai, I was thrilled! She is very bright, and really treats her patients as individuals. I can also tell you which doctors to avoid. I can't say enough good about her. Good Luck!

I have not been a patient, but I have spent some time in the waiting area while waiting for my wife, who was a new patient. I agree with earlier posting, the front office makes a first and lasting impression. The window was halfway open allowing for internal discussion to be over heard by the lobby. Some of it involved personal information of patients inside seeing the doctor. So much for doctor/patient confidentiality. More conversation on the problems with the computer and being unable to retrieve patient information, and patient information. I also have questions about why they made the quick move to another location without providing much advanced information about their moving. The post office does not even have their new address as mail being sent by other medical providers is being returned. (wife's past medical provider confirmed) Desai's office also did not receive faxed information sent, possibly due to their issues with being dependent upon all electronic data?

Another observation during my waiting time: 3 people came in and declared: I am here for my shots! I started a conversation with one of these guys and learned they do a lot of B-12 injections and run a diet program involving the injection of hormones. If you read up on the medical literature, these type diets are quite controversial, because of the hormone injections. At best, the weight loss is short term and temporary because it fails to put more emphasis on life style changes.

Later my wife, after finishing her appointment, (she is not going back) told me the doctor told her about the diet program, but it would not be covered by insurance and it costs $300.00 a month for the injections. She wisely declined, (she mentioned another patient's conversation she over heard) who was told if she did not want to use their diet program (citing opposition to hormone injections), she might as well go over to Weight Watchers by one of the nurses. If this was only a diet clinic, see no issue with the advice but she is a general practitioner, MD.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and reasons for selecting a doctor. So choose wisely, this is just information for consideration when making your decision for a medical care provider. Good luck.
