Anyone have their hip replaced?
Where we happy with the outcome?
Did you receive Physical Therapy after?

Cheers!

My very close friend just had this done about 12 days ago, on May 29. He lives in Tennessee. They did his left, he will go back in a few months for the right hip. It was a one-day in and out procedure. He definitely needed someone at home to help him (and drive him to/from the procedure) for the first, oh just under a week. Every single day brought huge gains in recovery. He went from hunched over his rolling-walker to walking without it entirely within a week. He bought himself some kind of icing machine for $200 that he swears by. It's attached to a little ice chest. Lemeee see if I can find one on the web real quick....

Ahh! Here it is: Polar Active Ice(R) 3.0 Extended Coverage Hip Cold Therapy System, 9 Quart Cooling Reservoir

He hates being under the influence of anything, so he weaned himself off the Oxy after about 4 days. So far he is really relieved it is behind him and really happy he got it done. The pre-op pain was horrible.

Oh, and yes, he was initially doing P.T. three times a week, he is only doing it twice a week now.

Hope this helps you some.

Very glad I had my hip surgery! Not perfect but very much better than before. I did do Physical therapy for 3 days a week for 4 weeks. The exercises were hard initially and every sessions they made them tougher. In the end, I could do almost anything. Make sure you also do your daily set of exercises at home multiple times per day. They will tell you this - do not ignore!

Dr. Van de Leur replaced my hip in January followed by much pain. My hip was broken! Had revision surgery at Shands in May. Home pt was a waste of money. Went to Active Rehab in Lady Lake. Very professional and worth the time. Now my hip is no problem. I just had a bad experience the first time. Most people have no trouble.

Default Hip Replacement

I had a hip replacement a year and a half ago. Dr. Joseph Locker was the BEST. He is with The Orthopedic Institute in Ocala and the surgery was done at West Marion. No pain, had therapy at my home by PT and am so Pleased with the outcome!! I will have Dr. Locker do my other one if I need it done. Excellent!

I've had both hips replaced at Florida Orthopedic Institute, Tampa,Florida 1 day procedure, no overnite, and no PT needed. Walked the same day. Ice packs worked good for 3 days then not needed. The procedures were done at Tampa General Hospital, one of the premier hospitals in the country. One of the top. 10 in the country for heart problems including transplants.

Default I had 3 hip replacements

I had 3 hip replacements beginning in 1998, 2001, and 2003. I refereed basketball for 25 years on them plus played softball (still playing softball). In those days it was a 7 inch cut across muscle each side when done. I had 2 days of PT then sent home and nothing further. I could not be happier with those surgeries. Things have changed greatly but I know I was thankful that I had each one done. Life was tougher before I had them done.

Had my hip done a few years ago by Dr Van de Leur, everything was perfect. Didn’t need PT. You just have to walk, walk and more walking.

I’ve had two hips replacements. You will be walking after about five hours from surgery and we’ll go home next day.

Default Hip replacement

Had my Total Hip Replaced on March 27th by Dr. Joseph Locker at the Orthopaedic Institute in Ocala, FL.

Like you, I asked on this forum of Talk of The Villages before I made an appointment. Received great information, recommendations, and personal testimonies. I decided on Dr. Locker and I made an appointment with Dr, Locker shortly thereafter. He is absolutely the best and will take the time to explain what to expect before and after the procedure.

Dr. Locker himself has received a Hip Replacement, and even shared some of his rehab experiences with me during a follow-up appointment.

Like I was told on this forum earlier this year: "Go with Dr. Locker, you won't regret it"

I had a total hip replacement, anterior method, last September. My surgeon was Brian Palumbo MD out of Tampa. I could not be more pleased. The surgery was performed at 6:30 AM in Tampa. I was back home in The Villages by 12:30 PM. I had home physical therapy as well as outpatient therapy. I feel better than I did before I ever had issues with my hip and I’m back to walking 15 .5 minute miles for 3 miles, golf, and non competitive pickleball.

While my July 2024 hip replacement went great, what followed was somewhat of a struggle. I had a walker for 3 days, went to a cane for another 10. A month later everything was going great until extreme pain on the other side sent me to the ER. ER doc told me the other side was ****ed at my new hip side, as I had been walking with a limp for 10 years (one leg an inch short) and had to go back to rehab for that. Next my hip flexor on my new hip side was so weak I couldn't lift my leg from gas to brake pedal. Back to therapy for 2 months. All that said I'm glad I did it. I play golf and pickleball several times a week without pain. Good luck!

I had my hips replaced in 2013 and 2015. They have been great. I did have a complication. Surgeon saw me post surgery and said my hip bones were soft. I would need to use a walker for 6 weeks post surgery so the hips would adequately grow around the screws. I followed orders and my hips have been perfect ever since.
