Default Katie Couric is the epitome of cheerfulness, positive energy etc

http://www.examiner.com/article/katie-couric-is-fed-up-with-the-food-industry-s-role-health-problems

Katie Couric is "Fed Up" with the food industry's role in health problems.....(as I attempted to share a few days ago after viewing her afternoon t.v. show.) The film was featured at Sundance Film Festival.

To most viewers, Katie is the epitome of cheerfulness, positive energy and lack of negativity.

Thank you Rubicon and thank you Villages PL.

You both understood totally what the message in the film was all about. The majority of food out there is not simple fresh whole food, but loaded with additives, flavor enhancers, chemicals, yeast derivatives, artificial colors, high sodium and higher yet SUGAR.....whether it be fake sugar, corn syrup or what have you. Especially restaurant food and fast food.

The Documentary producers are the ones who said that this next generation of children (being raised now) might live longer lives but sicker lives. NOT I. I'm paraphrasing that.

The people who came before us may have had harder physical lives, compared to our own high tech world......with modern conveniences and abundance of "prepared" foods, loaded with preservatives and junk.

However, they ate simple unadulterated foods........as back in their day there simply were NO PROCESSED FOODS. They grew and prepared their foods from scratch.

Amazing that those humble dishes (and recipes) evoke such nostalgia, when today we can literally have anything we wish in the way of exotic couisine, just by dining out.

Not to go off topic, but I am proud of our Governor for having the courage to sign into legislature the GMO law.

That's just one small issue. There are so many issues in the big wide world of FOOD being manufactured today.

Those who live near farmers markets, given the advantage of purchasing locally grown fresh foods are truly lucky.

This post is NOT meant to inflame or whatever it is that some think.

It is meant to be a positive step towards slowly changing our diets, within reason, in moderation.........depending on others whom we have to "feed", not just ourselves. I've always said that I could toally become a vegetarian........but other family members crave other things........so we oblige them. Many are in the same boat.

My adult children are 46 and almost 43; raising beautiful healthy chilren of their own. They all follow a super healthy diet, high in veggies and whole fruits; growing their own for the most part..........free range chickens, etc. We always had a frig and pantry filled with healthy food..........nothing was rationed. Neither kid ever had a weight problem and are both still thin in their 40's.

Our kids also walked everywhere. Not so for many of the kids today who get chauffered everywhere. Not all, but many.

My children's generation was the last who could safely walk without fear of being abducted or molested in their small town. It never entered my mind, actually.

Now, parents are fearful their kids might be snatched up, thus drive them everywhere........

Thus, I myself, totally "get" what FED UP documentary is all about.
I've seen it with my own eyes. Not all, but a large portion of the youth today are overweight. This is the next generation. This is the generation that MIGHT live longer but will live sicker according to the film............not me.

This entire thought process was a spinoff to the thread regarding how long would we like to live.....past 90, etc. Some shared their ancestors' ages at death. Lots of longevity in our grandparents day............compared to today when so many are diagnosed at early ages with cancer and heart disease.........and diabetes. Not to mention auto immune diseases. But, then we didn't have yoga mat chemicals in our foods.

Not all messages can be "sugar coated". No pun intended.

We are pushing 70, not 17. Have lived long enough to see it all.....and realize the differences between our grandparents' generation, our parents' generation, our own generation and our middle aged children's generation (thankfully our kids are mature adults as well as healthy ones)...........and now have a glimpse into the future of our baby, toddler, young child, pre teen and past teen grandchildren. All good, so far. Thankfully. Good solid food choices and ingrained healthy habits.

The documentary FED UP was for the ones who eat more than their fair share of fast food, soft drinks, processed meals, etc. You can see this generation of kids waddling around town. If they are that heavy as children, what will their old age be like?

It is funny that our government surplus foods that go to the schools do contain a lot of CORN/corn syrup. Or CHEESE. But then again that's a different thread.........one for Villages PL to explain, with his own wisdom and knowledge.

PEACE

Katie Couric is also trying for the 4th or 5th time to reinvent herself and her brand.

Her stint as CBS news reader proved her to be an expert on nothing but her political agenda.

Not a big fan of Katie Couric, but I'm glad that she's doing something to bring a big problem to light.
Unfortunately, she and so many of the other, "all natural, granola chewers", totally miss the point. There are a lot of problems with our diet today, but the biggest is the added sugar and the promotion of grains and fruits as being healthy.
We are eating huge amounts of sugar without knowing it and we are also being told to consume huge quantities of grains, which in today's world, have been genetically altered. Those grains turn into sugar in our bodies very quickly.
We are also being fed huge amounts of drugs by the AMA and pharmaceutical companies in an attempt to lower the evil cholesterol even though most will admit today that cholesterol poses no problems.
I posted a one hour and 45 minute video about this problem on this forum and exactly one person watched it.
Now, this may not be the only opinion and there may be others out there who feel they can refute this information. I say, let them present their case. The more information we have the better. But, I am finding that most people would rather stick their heads in the sand and say things like, "everything in moderation" and "surely a little can't do you any harm".
People are very comfortable with what they eat and I believe that for the most part they are not willing to make changes. We have become to reliant on what is convenient.

I don't have an opinion one way or another about Katie Couric, and I do believe these celebs jump on whatever bandwagon is going to bring them more media attention.

Having said that, sometimes that's what it takes to bring a problem to light. If all the people who love Katie Couric buy into her latest cause, something good might actually come of it.

And I still think it's bad for one's health to overly dwell on the negative aspects of life.

From what I read, Katie, is not all sweetness and light. She had a tough break when her husband passed at an early age. She has recovered nicely, by going out, with younger men.

I don't believe she is an expert on anything, except how to claw to the top, of her profession. She is having trouble, staying there!!!

My mother used to say the biggest difference in her life was the quality of the food. Many foods today are processed or contains additives, and not healthy.

I don't get fanatical about food, but try to eat as healthy as I can. To each his/her own.

One must be their own advocate, for their health.

Healthy eating personal choice. If you over weight then your eating too much or the wrong food. Don't take not Scholar to figure that out. Most people that are consider over weight don't have physical job and don't have hobby to that will burn calories (sitting on the couch watching TV or on Computer all night don't burn calories). Over weight or under weight same problem too much or not enough? Luckily for me I have job that if I didn't exercise it didn't matter cause I got enough exercise at work, kept muscle strong, and didn't have the opportunity to snack all day.

I'll keep my opinion about Katie to myself.

Default Evolution ignored

All of the tests that claim to prove that food additives are unhealthy are born out of animal testing. Testing that is performed on animals who are getting those additives for the first time in their genetic history. These test animals are not born of animals who have been eating those "toxic" additives for generations.

My point is that no one seems to consider that humans HAVE been eating these additives for generations. It is possible that our bodies have evolved to accept, possibly even need these "toxic" taste treats. I postulate that the removal of these ingredients may be the root of many of today's illnesses.

So save yourselves! Scarf down some genetically modified Snickers bars quick! Maybe even have some roundup cocktails!

The only thing I could say here in people's defense is that a one-hour-45-minute video is like going to the movies, and probably would appeal to people who are already into this subject, and be too long for the people who aren't.

If you want to grab somebody, do it quickly. They might go on to view more.
