Can anyone recommend a dentist that does dental implants at a "reasonable" cost? I've been to the seminar regarding the mini implants which were not too expensive but just not sure how good they actually are.
Thanks! |

I'm not familiar with the mini implants. Regular implants are very time consuming to install, takes a period of time, particularly if you need a bone graft, which is common for people "of a certain age", and hence, very expensive.

Not sure the reason you need or want this procedure, but if this is for cosmetic reasons only you may want to consider porcelain veneers. I had porcelain veneers applied to my 4 upper front teeth nearly 30 years ago, loved the result, and still can't believe they have lasted this long. I paid $2,000 per veneer and I suspect the cost now is in the ballpark of $3,500 each. Most people only need 4-6 veneers on their top front teeth to correct most cosmetic flaws, and rarely ones are needed on the bottom unless the teeth are very disfigured and show significantly when smiling. Good luck in whatever you decide, |

My impression is that mini implants are basically full mouth false teeth with two little posts that are implanted on the top and bottom to hold them in place.

I have a friend in The Villages who had an implant done at the U of FL dental school in Gainesville. It cost much less than is usual, and they did excellent work. Everything is supervised by the dental teacher. It takes longer because they are teaching.

If you are replacing several teeth, it is possible to install one implant post and have two crowns on the one post. If for example, you need to replace three teeth, you may only need two implant posts, and three crowns. The cost is usually separate for each implant post and each crown. Cost is always a consideration, but the advantages of implants is unbelievable - they are just like, even better, than your real teeth. I'm new in The Villages, so I don't know any dentists, or oral surgeons to recommend. TOTV can help you there. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My wife had implants done for her upper mouth. Dr Caylor was the surgeon and he is fantastic. The prosthodontist who did all of the actual dental work and supplied the crowns was Dr Davila. He is an experienced professional with 30+ years of experience teaching and procticing this art. He is fantastic. You can probably find someone to do it for a little less, but the quality and results will reflect that. She had 6 implants done at one time with twelve crowns total all of which were permanenttly installed rather than having removable dentures attached to the implants (highly recommend this option). Total cost for upper mouth was approximately $25,000, $10,000 of which was surgery. The day of surgery she had temporary dentures to wear during the healing process. That is what those who advertise "you can have your teeth done all in one day" neglect to mention. You have temps to wear. t takes several weeks to finalize everything, but you have teeth which allow you to function during this time. It's the best decision she ever made regarding her teeth. Also, be careful about the promises of mini implants and be sure they are strong enough to use to CHEW and now just for appearance. I recommend you get a consult with Dr Davila and Dr Caylor and they can help you decide what is best for you. They are both honest and forthright and don't need your business so you can know that their advice is in your best interest. Dr Davila does prosthodontist work only and is not a family dentist who makes crowns on the side.
