Question In need of Knee Scooter info...

I am having foot surgery later this month and therefore in need of a knee scooter for 3 weeks. I called Triton for a rental, however, they don't have one available at their location here in TV, nor at their Ocala location. I also called The Medicine Chest here in TV, only to find out that their rental price is more than twice as much per month as Triton. I noted in the phone book that there is a store in Summerfield so I will check with them tomorrow.

Is anyone aware of any other medical equipment rental stores close by TV that I could call?

Thanks!

Default knee scooter

I am having foot surgery Tuesday and planned to go to Triton for a knee scooter tomorrow. If I find one, perhaps we can share as I should no longer need it by later this month.

Have you checked to see if your health insurance will pay for a rental? Mine recently paid for a wheelchair rental at no expense to me with a Dr. prescription. Please check! If not the VFW (@466 and Rolling Acres) will loan for free; you do not have to be a member. I also read The Villages Homeowners Assoc. will loan but their site indicates you have to be a member. Hope this helps! PM me if you want more details for insurance.

I have a knee scooter I can sell you for $150, then you can sell it or I'll rent it for $25 a week with a $75 deposit. I used it for 8 wks and it was very helpful.

Triton will not have any available...or at least they told me they didn't when I called earlier in the week. They even checked with their Ocala location and none were available there either. Triton rents their knee scooters for less than half of the other places I called. The medical supply store which was recommended by my Dr. does not put them on reserve. They told me to call the day before I need it and they will hopefully be able to get me one. Really???? Well what if you can't get me one??? I will be up the creek with no paddle!

I checked on my insurance earlier in the week. Although I have very good health insurance, it does not cover knee scooters. When I had a previous foot surgery, my insurance paid for a very nice walker which I put my knee up on and used the walker as a scooter. Ackward? Yes...and it threw my back out of wack because of the height. The walker is up north and I am having the surgery here in FL.

Thanks for your input folks. I will keep plugging away at this. If it stays this cold I won't need one. I'll just stay home and roll about the house on my desk chair!

Does your scooter have the wheels on the front that turn to the side, or, are they stationary?
I may be interested in taking you up on your offer to rent this to me.

If your insurance covers durable medical equipment, I do not understand how they can refuse to cover the knee scooter. Did you ask if the would cover with a Dr. script? Also, please contact VFW lodge 347. They loaned me a rolling walker for 6 weeks; no charge, no deposit. They are good generous folks!

I wonder if Leesburg or Lady Lake have "senior centers"?? Up north we had a senior center in our community that loaned out wheelchairs etc. that folks donated. You didn't have to be a senior neither AND they delivered the item!

Amazon has knee scooters for under $200. When you are finished, you could donate it to the VFW program.
