Default Medicare - which plan?

Can anyone out there help us choose a plan?
My husband turns 65 early next year and
he needs to make a decision as to which
plan he is going to take. The problem
is that they are all so confusing.
Any helpful suggestions?

Thanks in advance for all your advice.

It's simple: A and B

If he takes a lot of medicines: and D

Also get a third party supplement insurance that covers the portion not covered by medicare; at 65 it costs about $120/mo.

It is very confusing for me, so I asked the retirement group that my husband belongs to and they suggested AARP. We have Medicare part A & B. Then AARPrx for part D (meds) and AARP for Supplemental.

I don't agree with AARP and their political activities, but have no complaints with the insurance. You don't have to belong to AARP to have their insurance.

My husband has had this set up for 21 years.

21 Years - that would make him at least 86; must be a good way of doing it!

(I went with Anthem Blue Shield for the Supplement Insurance; looked at three providers, Blue Shield - AARP - Health Net, and they all looked the same and charged the same)(my first month - hopin to make 21 years too)

I am going through the same process. So I think after looking at all the plans I am going with Preferred Care Partners, it takes care of everything all in one plan. You can also check out www.floridashine.org. They are here in The Villages few times a month. They have free counseling and information. Very helpful, I used them with my medicare part D this year.

This is a very confusing process when having to deal with for the first tiime. Going to this independent organization is what would be best for you as only you can decide what plan meets your needs.

For someone in great health, the AARP Medical Complete that has prescription drugs included is one type of choice for those who only need preventive medical needs.

Another choice is to get a supplemental plan that would cover hospitalizations better but you would need to get part D to cover prescriptions.

Make sure the plan you choose has the doctors you want to see.

It's not only about the cost invovled but piece of mind.

I know this has been asked before so I would suggest that you might want to look in the medical discussion area for other posts on this matter.

Best of Luck in deciding what right for you.

2BNTV, You are right! It is piece of mind that we have picked the ones we use. I kind of think, why tamper with success?

But, what we have may not be best for everyone.

I think that when people reach age 65, and as they age, all of these insurances and the costs can be a surprise. But, we are very lucky and all is good!

I said in a previous post about this matter that in choosing the right plan involves a crystal ball to see what our future health would be.

One can only make an educated guess as to what is the best plan for their medical needs going forward.
