Chronic Itching?
One of our group has chronic itching on their face/eyebrows/lids and scalp. Their doctor and referred Derma, both say they dont see anything. A PCT Test came back negative. I found descriptions of "Demodex Folliculorm & D. Blepharitis)" Its a microscopic parasite which most/all older people have. Apparently it can flare uo and cause the itching (and, sometimes skin problems too). Sounds gross to me Looks like a PCR test might be more appropriate. Anyone ever heard of it? |

Seems as even the most fastidiously clean among us are in reality walking critter colonies. This, from the BBC online: "We hate to break it you, but you’re not totally human. It’s nothing about you personally. It’s just that more than 90% of the cells in the human body are actually parasites. You might feel like a single being, but you’re really more of a bug city, teeming with different species. Or as Greg Foot from BritLab puts it in the above video: “In a rather gross way, you are practically a walking petri dish, a home for more bugs and bacteria than you’d care think about.” ("The disgusting creatures inhabiting your body". bbc.com, 2 April 2015). Back in my university days, infestations of pubic lice ("crabs", or as the doctor at the University Medical Center termed them "sabertoothed crotch critters" ) would occasionally make the rounds. There is a picture of one on the website referenced above. Good thing they're as small as they are: any larger and they'd be terrifying! But they're far from the only critter that loves riding/dining/reproducing on and/or in the human body. Thankfully as I understand it most are not only just innocuous but many are essential to our wellbeing! Sort of puts things in a different light. |
