I had both my hips replaced. One in 2005 and the other 2006. It was done in New Jersey where I lived at the time. I had them both done at the end of October. The first one, I was walking with a cane by November and the second time I didn't need a cane after a couple of weeks. I did rehab for a few months for each. The first week or so was the hardest and after that each day got better.

I have had two hip replacements with a fantastic doctor in Olympia, WA. He used titanium hips. I was back to work (sedentary job) in two weeks each time. I never had any pain or problems. I was 55 and 56 y/o when they were done. No more pain. I used a can for the two weeks when I was home if I needed it. I walked everyday to heal faster.

I had it done through The Orthopaedic Institute in Ocala. The doctor was Dr Michael Riley 352-620 -1900. The operation was done at West Marion Hospital in Ocala. I was there 3 days and then on to rehap. Dr Riley uses the anterior aproach, which I would recommend very highly'. I was up and walking and I couldn't believe how little pain I had. If you are interested in more details you can call me. PS: Re hab for me was about 5 weeks. Ron 259-2306 |

My left hip was replaced by Berger at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. He's the rock star doc...his waiting room is filled with suitcases from patients who flew in. Why? He's designed many of the hips used as replacement...he does the replacement with about a 3 inch incision...you are in at 6 am..in surgery at 7...climbing stairs by 1 pm and released to go home by 5 pm or 6 pm....out of state patients usually stayed in Chicago for 3 - 4 days. Limited insurance options...when he did my hip...it was just BC/BS Standard PPO. Many people paid cash for his fee and used insurance for the other docs and the hospital. A small incision...limited time in the hospital result in less chance for complications, or a long recovery and/or getting an infection.

I had my hip done by Dr Locker, same group as Dr Riley, anterior approach is the only way to go and the hospital is great.

I too had Dr Riley/West Marion Community for my total hip replacement in 2006. To this day nary a problem nor any pain. I was hiking in Colorado, doing a Llama treck, after six weeks! They have you walking in a few hours and when I "graduated" from West Marion (three days) we had a graduation dinner --- can't beat that!

Dr. Locker in Ocala is wonderful! Definitely want anterior procedure. Hospital is wonderful - orthodepics has their own wing to prevent infections etc. Rehab was quick and very little pain. I was walking without a cane or walker within two weeks. Had procedure done in 2010 and have had no problems.
