Default Very healthy ordinary people eating ordinary stuff.

I am taken with what I call evangelistic health foodies. They always trigger something in my conscience that says...you could cut back more on fat and salt...BUT..

It is my privilege to know a number of people who quietly are an example of wellness.

One woman in particular that I know well, never says a word about her diet but she is very close to my age and I know she eats a lot of fruits and vegetables because she grows them in her very private yard and even cans green beans. YES you read that right.

She also plays tennis...a lot and in the heat too. She is very trim and says she wears the same size she wore in high school. ( I know but I still like her to pieces) She swims frequently and takes long walks too.

She sees her doctors as a preventive issue because she enjoys good health. She has had her cateracts removed and she still has her natural dark hair. She looks much younger than me. AND she moves much younger than me.

She takes dessert, but very small portions. She is always so positive and has dozens of friends but is so kind and accepting and fun you always feel like you are very special to her.

She has never once said a thing about her very healthy lifestyle.

And neither has her very healthy over 100 year old mother who lives with her.

Yes, that is the formula:

- Everything in moderation
- Maintain your ideal weight
- Exercise
- Preventive medical care
- Positive mental outlook and inner peace
- Good genes

I believe some of our regular contributors may actually be suffering from

"Orthorexia nervosa, a disorder characterised by an obsession with being healthy. People who suffer from this fixate on establishing and maintaining a clean diet and lifestyle. This type of lifestyle will vary depending on the individuals perception of clean or healthy. For example some may focus on being vegetarian or vegan, others may focus on eating solely organic foods but it is common for people with othorexia to eliminate entire food groups from their diets."
