feelings about the Moffit Cancer Center 'alliance' here in TV. Obviously, it is
as Arthur Conan Doyle said, that "Things are not as they appear". How do you feel? If true, and I have no reason to doubt their one page revelation, it would seem a weak alliance at best. For these physicians to put themselves 'out there' with their information and opinions takes a strong person...people. I think we should seek to get to the bottom of this before pledging anymore funds for what appears to be one radiation oncologist on site from Moffit, if that is as it was pointed out in the one page ad in the POA Bulletin of yesterday. |

I'm fairly new to TV and so, perhaps, hadn't the history. Please share if
that is what you mean about, "here we go again".. Thanks |

There is some difficulty...actually a lot... The Boissonault center has placed full page advertisements lately in The Daily Sun. It could be competition.
Personally competition is my opinion. But others have other opinions. I haven't given any funding to anyone. I think they can take care of themselves. Funding a medical facility seems to me to be "bringing coals to Newcastle".

This radiation oncologist that runs Boisseneault RADIATION facility has bought full page ads over and over in the Daily Sun to market his radiation treatment and facility as being superior to what Moffitt Comprehensive Cancer Center will be able to provide here in The Villages.
Competition has come to town, and the Central Florida Health Alliance is doing fundraising, typical of any non-profit hospital, to equip the costly radiation treatment facility at The Villages' Moffitt Cancer Center branch opening here. Fundraising by CFHA, to equip Leesburg Regional and The Villages Regional Hospitals is a longstanding, typical approach to building and equipping hospitals and their specialty clinics (see below). From CFHAlliance.org Giving Opportunities website: "Giving opportunities throughout Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Health System are designed to meet the needs of all donors who wish to support our work. Cash donations are the most common form........ Gifts may be directed to the program or service of your choice, or may be allocated where the need is greatest. Programs and services may include: Cancer Care & Cancer Center The Joint Center(s) Center for Excellence in Nursing Critical/Intensive Care Grateful Patient Program Heart Institute The Life Center for Women (Maternity & Gynecology) Neurology/Neurosurgery Ohme Rehabilitation Center Pediatrics Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center Diagnostic Imaging/Technology Tree of Life & Love Wellness Outreach Chronic Disease Management Education and Development Annual/General Fund Concierge Program Auxiliary at Leesburg Regional Auxiliary at The Villages Health System" http://www.cfhalliance.org/giving_opportunities.htm Apparently the radiation doctor from Boisseneault wishes that he, too, were funded by charitable donations. But then, most people know that when they set up a for-profit business or medical practice, that will not be the case. Rather than "Clarifying" the differences between Moffitt's branch here and his own, this radiation oncologist has consistently clouded the issue more with these paid ads. Moffitt's capability and reputation for treating ALL phases--not just radiation-- are well established: http://www.moffitt.org/cancer-treatment-patients |

Gary Morse started Boisseneault when his wive died of cancer. Its a long long story and would take a small book to explain all that has happened.
There has been a falling out with partners. This is happening in many long standing relationships here and the motive appears to be money. Those who know, know... and those who prefer to think all is roses here will continue to think so....fine with me. I just have too many things going on to get into a discussion here with what is really very few of the whole pop of The Villages. I do think- Relay for Life- is still missed. Everyone have a great great day. I know I will... |

There was a very, very long thread that discussed fund raising, that "cheating" developer, who has what machine, why are there funds being raised, etc. Many, many opinions and debated facts. Stay tuned this thread will rehash over all the previous debate.

I agree! My thought is "IF" one gets the dreaded diagnosis of cancer we would have options. I really don't see what all the negatively is about but just sour grapes!!! JMHO!

it's really very simple...wait and see if there truly is only a single oncologist from Moffitt at the new center, any other speculation is only that, speculation.

This sounds to me like since the first center has had a monopoly for so long, they just don't want to share. That doesn't say much for patient focus in my book...just money.

I guess Big Lew said we will have to see what really materializes. However,
one radiation oncologist does not the Moffit Center make...as a newbie, that is what I took from the ad. Interesting to watch this materialize and what the outcome will be. For all of us, and for all of the doc's here who serve those with cancer as well. |

The POA had the Dr. who is the owner of Boissonault speak at one of its
member meetings a couple of months ago and he was excellent and very informative. Whether you agreed with him or not you could not ignore the facts he presented. It would be worthwhile to watch the POA Bulletin which is published each month and where there is an interest attend the member meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Laural Manor at 7PM. You do not have to be a member and their meetings allow us to hear great input from a number of sources and ask questions of the Village Management who attend each meeting. ![]() |

one would think the agreement between Moffit and The Villages would be available to read somewhere. If, indeed, there is only one radiation oncologist
who will be stationed here...and some equipment for her or him to use...in no way would I consider that an institutional or organizational plan serving Villa gers. I was surprised to read the statemnent of advertising in the POA Bulletin, but at the same time it mad me rethink the 'alliance'. To me an alliance means much dolllars, many personnel, and the intent to serve a city of more than 80,000. Again, I am too new to be able to put all the pieces together, and I'm not sure money on the part of the oncologists who placed the "ad" is an ulterior motive. Possibly, it is true. If this is the case, it is, to me, really shameful, a sham almost. It feels like, feels like the Developers have possibly not thought out the overall health issues here. I do see a little USF building in LSL, but that alone also doesn't tell me there is an alliance. It is a big presence I was looking for when I moved here in July and saw all the Moffit signage and 'advertising'. Being genetically predisposed to melanoma, it makes me wonder if my choice made last spring was on a balance equation if you know what I mean. Guess the wait and see is the best option, however, Moffit has had some signage and advertising presence here since I began my home search. If, if it ends up to be true that a satellite type radiation oncologist is all that is included, well, it might, or could be construed as false advertising. I will wait patiently to see what occurs. Thank you so much for your insight, everything here is relatively new and I am learning through the dialogue. |
