I looked it up in Webster's Dictionary and it said, "partly muscle". But what percentage of it is muscle? It didn't say. And what's the rest of it made of?
It didn't say.

You would think it's basic information but it's not. I checked with a book about prostate and online but found no information as to what it's made of.

What is there beside muscle in the human body? Fat would be a good guess.

If the rest of it is fat, that might partly explain why it becomes enlarged.

The muscle part of it wouldn't get bigger with age, unless you're a body builder like Arnold.

Yes, but what is it made of? What kind of cells? The body is made up of fat cells, muscle cells, bone cells etc...

It is a "gland" so it is made up of glandular cells. These glandular cells produce the fluid component of semen, while the testicular glands produce the sperm cell component of the semen. The seminal vesicles also contribute to this fluid component. The prostate also is composed of connective tissue cells which are present in almost any type of organ. The smooth muscle cells of the prostate help propel the prostatic fluid into the urethra during ejaculation.

The tissue that surrounds the secretory ducts and glands is known as interstitial tissue; this contains muscle, elastic fibres, and collagen fibres that give the prostate gland support and firmness. The capsule enclosing the prostate is also of interstitial tissue.

Webster's Dictionary was just a starting point. Wickipedia is better, I agree. I received a PM with a link to Wickipedia and it said: "Many glands are made up of epithelial cells.

So now we have muscle cells and epithelial cells and I suppose they are included under the more general term "glandular". Now I wonder if there are any other types of cells besides those two.

It is kind of interesting to me and made me do some research but I am a card carrying mother and grandmother and old person so I have zeroed into what I THINK is the bottom line.

Which is a health issue. I like to KNOW how things work too, but when there is a health issue, I think it is better to consult the best expert in the field that can be found. If we live with someone, THAT someone usually points that out.

A good friend, when she got the diagnosis of cancer, said to me. "Well I didn't have time to get a medical degree so I have to trust the experts." That was a good plan. Although she had a lot of letters after her name they weren't the right ones for that problem.

USUALLY that works out best. Ask friends who they think is the best doctor in that field and follow that doctor's advice.

Health matters so much to the OP. It matters so much to all of us.
