Default Pictures of Brooklyn

Below are a few pictures I took this past weekend when we visited NY. They were taken in Brooklyn Heights and Carroll Gardens (my childhood neighborhood).
How many of you recall running through a sprinkler on a hot day in the city? Great memories.
Enjoy.

Travel,

These pics put a smile on my face!

Court Street Pastry, Union Street, Nino's Restaurant...So many Sunday's were spent sitting on the stoop..We never wanted to go in at night..

Seeing the Piers also brings back fond memories, I have two Uncles that worked there all their lives..

Thanks so much for the walk down memory lane!

You're making me homesick :'( :'( I have this fantasy of relocating back to Brooklyn in a Brownstone with a stoop, in a neat neighborhood near Prospect Park :'(

Yeah, it's only a fantasy cuz I couldn't take the harsh winters anymore : THANKS FOR SHARING THE PICS !

Coney, I know exactly what your feeling. I always wanted to go back to my victorian brownstone in Chicago, so many wonderful childhood memories but I know I couldnt even afford to live in that neighborhood now and you know what they say, "You cant go home again" ! For many years tho I wanted to try!

We tend to step back in time, to when this world was so different..I would love to go back to my childhood home in Brooklyn, but to find who???

All my friends are gone, and the neighbors have all moved..It would never be the same..I am kinda glad we can keep these memories, just the way they were!

Coney.

I was there last year. Coney Island has it's own minor league baseball stadium and it is very nice. We have one here in Staten Island too. Of course, there is a rivalry. I'll send you some links
I was very impressed with Coney, the boadwalk was very nice. It looked so much better than it did in the 70's and 80's.

Shirleevee........ THANKS for telling me that. Gosh, it's almost worth a visit to NYC to go see Coney Island again. When I was 14 years old, living in The Projects, my girlfriend and I used to skip school, take the subway and go to Coney Island...... spend all our money..... and have to walk home.

I had heard it deteriorated badly and was rundown. I'm so glad to know CI is nice again! Can't wait to visit 8)

Here are a few more. Many are shots of the architecture, as we were visiting my daughter who is majoring in historic preservation and loves the brownstowns.
I like the reflection of the older buildings in the glass in picture 7. Picture 4 is one of the new 'water sculptures' around Manhattan - notice the Statue of Liberty in the background. And I couldn't resist a picture of my old apartment building on the corner of 4th Pl and Court Street (last photo). Hanley's (the oldest bar in Brooklyn - 1874) is still on the street level, with it's mahogany, brass and marble bar and original tin ceilings. The outdoor patio area with tables was our front yard, or what we referred to as the "aerie way."
Regarding Coney Island, my first roller coaster ride was on the Cyclone at age 5, a family tradition. We also rode the Steeplechase horses and the famous Parachute jump. I took Mr. Travel there for the 1st time two years ago to see a Cyclones game, eat at the original Nathan's and ride the Cyclone, but I believe that 2008 is it's last season before it is dismantled, so you may wish to plan a trip there soon!

travel -

Thank you so much for sharing these photos.
Since I was a child, I have been visiting NYC for weekends, as a getaway and on business - in various stages of my life ....and I absolutely love it. I didn't realize what I had missed by not going to Brooklyn. How beautiful..................Would love to hear and see more.
