Default Great Blue Heron in a predicament

Great Blue Heron caught this snake and it wrapped around it's beak. The Blue Heron did end up winning the battle.

Good morning,

The look in his eye captures the moment — although his eyes probably always look like that. According to the Cornell site (allaboutbirds.org) Great Blue Herons have exceptional night vision because they have a high number of rod-type photoreceptors allowing them to hunt day and night.

I am curious about how he won the battle. I assume with his talons and long neck, he could easily pull it off his beak. Is that what happened?

There was another picture and it did not go well for the snake.

He takes such exciting and well executed photos! Many thanks.
